Why People Knock On A Watermelon Before Buying

Why do people actually knock on a watermelon before buying it?

Some say that’s the best way to check on a watermelon’s condition is to knock on it. But in Italy, a supermarket prohibits tapping on the watermelon.

There were also warnings placed, maybe because the supermarket’s owner was disturbed by the customers’ habit of knocking on the watermelon.



In China, customers were seen like as though waiting for a reply from the watermelon after knocking on it, this was trending in China.

Then, the hypermarkets in China then started putting up boards “Do not knock on the fruit, it will NOT Respond”.



Here is how to identify if the watermelon is matured or not:

1)The ripened watermelon is heavy when you lift it.

2)Yellow stripes on it, means the watermelon has matured but if there’s white stripes on it, the watermelon has not matured yet.

3)A Ripe watermelon will be firm when you press on it.

4)And this is what they say, the sound of a ripe watermelon is louder than a normal watermelon.
