Top 10 Municipalities In Bosnia And Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country in Europe and is situated on the Balkan Peninsula. It was once a country which was part of Yugoslavia but found independence in 1992. It borders Serbia to the east, Croatia to the north, west and southwest and Montenegro to the southeast. This country is very mountainous. There are many cities in this country such as Sarajevo, Jajce, Mostar, Zenica, Neum and many more. Bosnia is such a stunning country with such beautiful scenery. There is plenty for you to see whilst you are here. Make sure you see The Waterfall and the Fortress of Jajce, Stari Most, which is the old bridge, and many more. Bosnia is full of lovely, stunning sights and you will love seeing all the spectacular sights. You can take part in many different activities such as rafting, canoeing, Kayaking, hiking, fly fishing, and you can take part in a number of winter sports. As you can see, there is plenty you can be amused by here. Overall, Bosnia and Herzegovina is a stunning country with spectacular views. 1. Sarajevo



The Centar, which is the municipality of Sarajevo, is a must-see for any tourist coming to Bosnia to soak up the sights. This is the most important part of Sarajevo so you can see why it is a must-see. This municipality celebrates the important day, Centar Municipality Day, which is on May 2. Over the years, this municipality of Sarajevo has received several awards. If you come to Bosnia and would like to see some sights, make sure you come and the Centar. It is definitely a landmark of the area well worth a visit.

2. Banja Luka



The Banja Luka plays a great and important part in Bosnia's government structures. Yet again, the municipality is a great sight to see if you happen to be in the area. Both locals and tourists come to the see the Banja Luka municipality because it is rather a notable building here. In the actual country itself, this is well-known as a visitor spot and many people gather outside taking many pictures of this notable, beautiful building which has gained so much popularity over time. So if you want to see it, make sure you come and also bring a camera with you so you can take plenty of pictures.

3. Tuzla



Tuzla, the third largest city in the country, is now quite the tourist spot. With its stunning countryside, this is no surprise at all. One of the main features of Tuzla is its brilliant art galleries. Also, if you have a keen interest in history, you will find a lot here. The economy of this city is based greatly around the tourist industry. It does receive many tourists and this is because it offers a lot to them. 4. Mostar



This is one of the most ethnic diverse cities in the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Right when the war began, the city unfortunately lost many of its notable, beautiful buildings. This is because it was one of the most heavily bombed cities in the country. There are many wonderful sights to see in this city including the Old Bridge, Old Bridge Museum, Muslibegovica House, Cemetery, Biscevica House and many more. Walking around the city is a pleasant activity. You can walk across the Old Bridge and just enjoy the beautiful scenery. There is so much to see here and so much history to it.

5. Bihac



The municipality Bihac takes up an area of 900 km2. More or less, 70,000 citizens live here in the city. For a long time and now it still does, the Una River defines this city and many tourists and visitors come here to mainly see this well-known historic river. Also, Bihac's beautiful waterfalls are sights many love to admire. This is actually a much loved destination to both the locals here and the foreign people who come here for a holiday. Here in the city and municipality of Bihac, you can enjoy a wonderful, pleasant adventure, full of great sights.

6. Trebinje



This southernmost municipality is located just 10km from the Adriatic Sea. It is often a city known for being one of the most beautiful cities in the country. There are many beautiful bridges and a river, and the sights are just stunning and so very picturesque. This city is full of notable buildings and you can just enjoy the great pleasure of walking around the city, sightseeing and loving all the views and your beautiful surroundings. Many visitors come here for a beautiful vacation away. You can take lots of lovely pictures and you will have a wonderful time here in Trebinje.

7. Doboj



Doboj is yet another lovely city in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is mainly known for being home to catholic churches, Orthodox Churches and Mosques. And, they are all located close together. The Doboj Fortress is the number one sight here in the city. You must try and attempt to climb to the fortress's hilltop in order to see the wonderful sight overlooking the city. Another sight is the lovely Garansko Lake. Here you can see the beautiful lake, camp, swim, grill food. It's great. Other places to see are as such: Preslica, Mount Ozren and St. Nichola's Monastery. These are all definitely worth visiting. The main sights here are the beautiful churches and religious buildings.

8. Travnik



Travnik is a municipality and also a town in the country of Bosnia. It has over 27,000 residents here today and boasts a massive cultural heritage. Travnik has indeed a strong culture and you will most likely notice that quite clearly if you come here yourself. There are many churches and mosques here in the town which are just lovely. The architecture is just beautiful. The city Museum is famous and you will have to see it if you come. It is a very notable building. So make sure you come along and see it for yourself. Travnik is a beautiful town with plenty of sights. You will adore it here.

9. Visoko



The municipality, Visoko, situated in Central Bosnia and Herzegovina, is rich in historical heritage. Therefore, you must see it. There are about 46,000 residents in the city. Because it is so rich in historical heritage, there are many museums here that display its history. There are many objects within the museums from the Middle Ages, so visiting one of the museums may indeed be of interest to you if you would like to learn more about the history here. 10. Konjic   



Konjic is a nice town located between Mostar and Sarajevo. It is situated on the Neretva River. Konjic is mainly famous for Tito's Bunker, a large underground complex, which is stunning. Konjic's Museum and Art Gallery is a major must-see if you fancy exploring the area's sights. It opened only in 2011 but has since become a very attractive visiting place. The museum and gallery is home to a number of paintings by local artists and also boasts a little ethnographic collection. Another sight to see for definite is the Ottoman Bridge, located right in the center of the town. It was built in 1682 but got restored between the years of 2007-2010. Rafting and hiking are common activities pursued in Konjic.


Bosnia and Herzegovina is a lovely country rich in culture, history and stunning sights. These above are the top ten municipalities in the country and admittedly, they are all equally as beautiful.
