Romeo Juliet Music review

Cast: Jayam Ravi, Hansika, Poonam Bajwa
Music: D.Imman
Lyrics: Madhan Karky,Rokesh,Thamarai
Director: Lakshman

‘Romeo Juliet’ marks yet another urban outing for composer D.Imman after ‘Valiyavan’. The movie which is touted to be a rom-com is said to have lot of tracks for the youngsters. Let us check the album out:

Dandanakka
Singer: Anirudh Ravichander
Charbuster of the season! ‘Dandanakka’ is supposed to be a tribute to the multitalented TR and the song comes across as a total funky number where Anirudh has had a field day with Rokesh’s (Dangamaari fame) lyrics. The addition of TR’s speeches in the interludes although seemingly unnecessary adds to the flavor of the track. Pick of the album!

Romeo Romeo
Singers: Vishal Dadlani,Hyde Karty
Probably the song that worked the least for me. ‘Romeo Romeo’ marks the association of the bigshot composer-singer Vishal Dadlani with Imman. The tune is less catchy, less memorable falling flat on some occasions which leaves us to hum the rest of the songs in the album.

Adiye Ivala
Singers: Anthony Dasan
‘Adiye Ivala’ is where Imman fuses gaana with western and comes up with an infectious tune. Anthony Dasan is equally a vital cog in making this song work because of his vocals. The ‘arakki’ portions are going to be met with a loud screaming response from the youngsters.

Thoovanam
Singers: Vishal Dadlani,Sunitha Sarathy
‘Thoovanam’ is a slow-poison! This song which has been rendered in a husky tone backed by some good lyrics will grow on the listeners on multiple attempts. Vishal Dadlani takes care of the power packed vocals while the haunting humming section deserves a mention. There is also a reprise version of the same track where Sunitha Sarathy helms the centre-stage and nothing else changes much.

Idharkuthaane Aasaipattai
Singer: Vaikom Vijayalakshmi
‘Idharkuthaane Aasaipattai’ has a funny tune that ensures Vaikom Vijayalakshmi’s successful association with Imman continues. The tune is a sure winner and takes all the cake for the song. Being easily hummable makes this song a potential radio hit!

On the whole, ‘Romeo Juliet’ is a fun album by Imman where he unloads a certain amount of wackiness to the tunes.

Jayam Ravi's 'Romeo Juliet' postponed to May

The audio of Jayam Ravi’s Romeo Juliet was launched recently and the Dandanaka song composed by Imman is a big hit in social networking sites.

During the audio launch, the makers have said that the film is slated for April release but now sources say that the film will be releasing only on May 2015.

As April is already overcrowded with the release of many biggies like Udhayanidhi’s Nanbenda, Karthi’s Komban, Kamal Haasan’s Uttama Villain and Mani Ratnam’s O Kadhal Kanmani, the producers of Romeo Juliet is currently looking for a suitable date in May.

Rome Juliet also has Hansika playing the female lead and Poonam Bajwa playing an important role in the film

T. Rajendar sends legal notice to 'Romeo Juliet' team

T. Rajendar sent a legal notice to the crew of upcoming Jayam Ravi-starrer Tamil romantic-comedy "Romeo Juliet" restraining them from using the song "Dandanakka' in their film.

The song, which was meant to be a tribute to Rajendar, has not gone down too well with him.

"Rajendar sir is upset with the fact that the song has not been received well by his fans. Although the makers of 'Romeo Juliet' claim it's a tribute, it has only paved way to memes and funny mash up videos. It has not been received positively, and that's why a legal notice has been sent to the team," a source close to Rajendar told IANS.

After its release online a few weeks ago, the song became an instant hit. But audiences made it seem like a funny tribute to Rajendar -- popularly known as TR.

A day after the release of the song, actor Jayam Ravi clarified that the song was not meant to demean T. Rajendar.

"My character is inspired by TR sir. I play his biggest fan in the movie. The song is a tribute to him. But certain videos are showing him in bad light, which hurts all those involved in the making of the project," Ravi tweeted.

The legal notice has been sent to the film's producer Nandagopal, director Lakshman, composer Imman, writer Rokesh and actor Jayam Ravi.

TR demands one crore from 'Romeo Juliet' team

All is not well between the makers of Jayam Ravi-Hansika starrer Romeo Juliet and T Rajendar.

We have already reported that T Rajendar (Simbu's dad)  has sent a legal notice to the Romeo Juliet team as he found the song Dandanaka.. in Romeo Juliet as offensive and degrading his reputation in the society. Please note that this song has become a big hit and USP for Romeo Juliet.

Now T Rajendar has not only filed a defamation case against music director D Imman, Producer Nandagopal, singer Anirudh and lyricist Lokesh but demanded Rs one crore from the Romeo Juliet team. He also wants the song to be removed from You Tube, as his voice, dialogues and mannerisms are not shown in good light.
.
Romeo Juliet’s director Lakshman and hero Jayam Ravi have been saying that the song is a tribute to T Rajendar and they even sent press notes stating that fans should stop using the song to troll T Rajendar. A source close to the Romeo Juliet team says that contrary to T Rajendar's accusations, the song projects the veteran actor/director in a positive manner.

Though the Romeo Juliet  team is trying to make an out-of-court settlement, TR is not willing to do so, as he feels that in future everyone will start doing the same thing and he wants to put a full stop to such cheap gimmicks of film makers!

The song ‘Dandanakka’ in Romeo Juliet is already a big hit and also created controversy as T Rajendar has filed a defamation case against the unit.

'Romeo Juliet' theatrical rights sold

The theatrical rights of Jayam Ravi’s Romeo Juliet have been sold to Cosmo Village Pictures who earlier released Sibiraj’s hit film Naaigal Jaakirathai.

Directed by Lakshman, Romeo Juliet has Hansika as the female lead and Poonam Bajwa is playing an important role in the film.

We have also got a confirmation that Escape Artists Madan has bought the Chennai city rights of the film.

The film was mired with a controversy as T Rajendar filed a defamation case because the movie has a song ‘Dantanakka’ which is said to have insulted his status in society.

Recently the team had talks with T Rajendar and when Sify.com asked Romeo Juliet’s director Lakshman, he has confirmed us that the issue has been solved and now the team is looking for a good release date.

Hansika watches & promotes 'Romeo Juliet'!

Hansika is one actress in Tamil cinema who goes that extra mile to promote her films. The busy actress has taken time off and is in Chennai to do promotions for her upcoming Friday release,Romeo Juliet.

Says A S. Nanthagopal the producer of Romeo Juliet: “Gone are the days when marketing and publicity of a movie was limited to film posters on walls, giant billboards, and newspaper ads. Today, stars in Tamil need to take a leaf out of Bollywood actors who realise the importance of marketing and promoting their films and give time for promotions. Hansika has given us three full days for the promotions”

Hansika is the pillar of Romeo Juliet:Jayam Ravi

The press meet of Jayam Ravi-Hansika starrer Romeo Juliet happened on Thursday (June 11) at Prasad labs, Chennai.

Addressing the media, the film’s director Lakshman said “For me Jayam Ravi is next to God because today many assistant directors are having wonderful scripts but he has chosen me and right from the beginning everything including Hansika’s call sheet and Imman’s music happened so easily that I never had any problem directing this film”.

Jayam Ravi said “I should thank Lakshsman for directing such an entertaining film. Our Juliet (Hansika) is the pillar of strength for the movie and I’m sure she will bag many awards”.
Ravi also thanked cinematographer Soundararajan for showing both him and Hansika beautifully and the actor said he was skeptical whether any other cinematographer could show him and Hansika as beautiful as Soundararajan did in Romeo Juliet.

“I think Romeo covered everything (laughs). All I can say is thank you Lakshman for making me a part of Romeo Juliet and I’m very glad that the film has happened in my career. Jayam Ravi is a wonderful co-star, happy that I’ve shared screen space with him again” said Hansika.
Hansika also thanked producer Nandagopal for supporting the team. Romeo Juliet is releasing today (June 12) across the globe.

'Romeo Juliet' takes a good opening

Jayam Ravi and Hansika starring Romeo Juliet  carries mixed reports and has taken a good opening at the Tamil Nadu box office. It has managed to gross 6.5 cr in its first three days.

The film has granted tax exemption in all other districts except Chennai because of the RK Nagar by-election where Chief Minister Jayalalitha is contesting.

As the film has got tax exemption, trade feels that it will end up as a profitable venture for the buyers. Reports say that the mass audiences like the film for the lead pair’s sparking chemistry and also for the comic dialogues.

Directed by Lakshman, the film is produced by Nandhagopal while Cosmo Village has released it in Tamil Nadu.

Romeo Juliet is also doing good business in the traditional overseas market including Malaysia and Singapore.

Romeo Juliet Review

Director: Lakshman
Cast: Jayam Ravi, Hansika, Poonam Bajwa, VTV Ganesh

Director Lakshman whips up a lighthearted souffle' called Romeo Juliet. Sprinkled liberally with so-called humor, the film makes some rather predictable points about love, straining its already-thin premise.  It follows the clichéd template of umpteen candy floss romantic stories in the past. But here, it is the girl who falls for the guy only to realize that he is not rich enough and dumps him like a hot potato.

Karthik (Jayam Ravi) is a gym coach who trains film celebrities and rich people in the city. Subbu Lakshmi aka Aishwarya (Hansika) is an air-hostess who is obsessed to become rich by marriage and seems to be always on the look-out for a wealthy guy.

Aishu mistakes Karthik who drives around in his client's luxury car and shops from upmarket malls as rich and fall head-over heels with him. She stalks him and finally manages to grab his attention. But everything is shortlived as she is in no mood to live her entire life paying EMI and lead a  middle class life. Soon, she gets engaged to a rich guy (Vamsi).

But Karthik is in mood to understand that he has actually escaped from a girl with whom he has no compatibility but instead troubles her, irritates her by constantly following her and getting into an agreement that she has to find a girl who looks exactly like her for him to marry! Or else he will expose the photos that they took while they were dating!!

Lakshman has packaged the film in a glossy manner but it is unable to find any spark or chemistry between the lead pair. His direction is amateurish and so are the characters half-baked.  The best thing about Romeo Juliet is Jayam Ravi and Hansika who does their best to rise above the flawed script.  They both look good and have done their best. Hansika looks like a dream and it is her bubbly cute expressions that win you over. A special mention about her costumes, hair and make-up which is perfect.

It is good to see Jayam Ravi back in a romantic roles, the actor has given his heart and soul for the character and his performance is flawless. VTV Ganesh's comic one-liners are good and it comes in handy for the entertainment quotient.  Poonam Bajwa is wasted in an insipid role while Vamsi is wooden.  Songs of D Imman are hummable and BGM is top notch. Soundar Rajan’s cinematography has also helped the film to look grand and glossy.

Overall, Romeo Juliet is a predictable romantic entertainer.
