Ganesh Venkatraman’s recent release Acharam is watchable for its plot and the actor’s performance as psychotic police officer.
Suriya (Ganesh Venkatraman), a sub inspector happens to investigate a theft case that takes place in an architect Siva’s (Munna) house. Right from the moment Suriya sees Siva’s wife Ramya (Poonam Kaur), he falls for her. Later we are shown that Ramya was actually engaged to Suriya but she had eloped with Siva on the wedding day which causes huge damage to Suriya’s life. The film’s director Mohan Krishna definitely has a good story in hand but the execution becomes preachy. He has targeted women in poor light in many scenes and at times, it appears to be too harsh!
Performance wise, Ganesh Venatraman has excelled in playing the furious police officer and also the deadly villain. From a classy guy in Abhiyum Naanum to an encounter cop in Unnai Pol Oruvan, he continues to prove his acting prowess in Acharam as well.
Poonam Kaur looks pretty but she must work on her expressions and also the lip-sync which is downright bad. Munna who comes as Poonam’s husband has given a matured performance while the rest of the cast are just adequate.
Cinematographer RK Pratap has wonderfully captured the lush green locales of Kodaikanal and used apt lighting to increase the thrill factor. Srikanth Deva’s BGM raises the tempo while songs are just average.
Though the film has portrayed how the selfishness of the current generation lovers could change the life of a family, the preachy execution dilutes the message and makes it stereotypical.
Nevertheless, Acharam is watchable for the good performance of Ganesh Venkatraman and also for the basic story-line which reflects the current happenings in the society.
