Moone Moonu Varthai Review

Director: Madhumitha
Cast: Arjun, Aditi Chengappa, Venkatesh Harinathan

What happens when a movie is filled with non-stop dialogues and there is not even a moment of silence? Well, director Madhumitha's Moone Moonu Varthai  at times becomes unbearable due to constant chatter with so-called comic dialogues that fall flat.

Arjun (Arjun) is a carefree youngster who can't work on a single job for more than three months, everyone including his grandparents ( SP Balasubramaniam and Lakshmi) considers him as nuisance.

When Arjun's grandparents ask him to take care of himself and leave to US, he starts a 'bad news delivery service' with his friend Karnan (Venkatesh Harinathan)! The idea is to convey 'unfortunate' or 'bad'  news to people. In the process they stop the marriage of a young girl who is the sister of Arjun’s girlfriend Anjali (Aditi Chengappa).

When Anjali comes to know about Arjun and his profession, she hates him and there comes an ego clash between Arjun and Karnan as well. The rest of the film tells how Arjun solve all the complex issues and leads a happy life!

The 'idea' of making a mindless comedy entertainer with feel good moments is laudable but for such movies, dialogues is important and the writing must evoke good laughter. Sadly here the joke is on the audiences, the writing is pathetic and film drifts aimlessly and goes on and on.

Also, performances by lead actors are just like a school play . SP Balasubramaniam and Lakshmi are always known for their phenomenal acting but due to the poor execution, they too seem to have gone overboard. Among all the actors, Venkatesh Harinathan is a revelation, despite being projected as a comedian; he is the real hero of Moone Moonu Varthai and not the actual protagonist who finds it hard to fit into the shoes of an energetic youngster.

Technically, the film is decent with good camera work by Srinivas. Music by Karthikeya Moorthy is also good; especially the background score is unique for a comic movie.

What has happened to Madhumita, a director who gave us that enjoyable Kola Kolaya Mundhirika ? Overall, Moone Moonu Varthai is a below average comic movie which occasionally evokes laughter!
