Kadaseela Biriyani Review

Star Cast : Vasanth Selvam, Dinesh Selvam, Vijay Ram, Hakkim Shahjahan
Director : Nishanth Kalidindi

Debutant director Nishanth Kalidindi's Kadaseela Biriyani is an amusing thriller that takes some time to establish the main characters. The film is all about the journey of three brothers who go on a mission to kill the murderer of their dad. While the elder ones are fully invested in the plan, the youngest one is reluctant.

Periya Paandi (Vasanth Selvam) and Ila Paandi (Dinesh Selvam) are the elder brothers who live with their mother and grandad, who are strong believers of violence and revenge. The youngest brother Chikku Pandi (Vijay Ram) was brought up by his father, who hates violence. After his dad's demise, Chikku Pandi comes under the control of his mom and the two elder brothers. Under the command of their mother, Periya Paandi, Ila Paandi, and Chikku Paandi decide to kill a big shot in Kerala, who murdered their dad. But as said earlier, Chikku Paandi wants to live a peaceful life but had to join his brothers due to the pressure from his mother. Though they successfully kill the old man, they have to escape from his psychopath son (Hakkim Shahjahan, who is fantastic),

Nishanth's treatment is unique and has the shades of filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino, Guy Ritchie, and back home Thiagarajan Kumararaja and Lijo Jose Pellissery. But the profanity could've been avoided as those dialogues are disgusting.

As discussed earlier, it takes some time for us to relate to the characters but once we know who are they, things become interesting. Especially, the entire episode of the Paandi brothers who enter into the house of the old man and sketch a plan to kill him. Hakkim Shahjahan's character arc is also quite interesting and he has delivered a brilliant performance. Among the Paandi brothers, Vasanth Selvam is super impressive but Vijay Ram, who plays Chikku Pandi is not up to the mark.

Azeem Mohammed, Hestin Jose Joseph, and Jaison Jacob John's cinematography is one of the key highlights of the film, not appreciating their visual quality but their ability to capture the mood of the scenes and their angles. Judah Paul - Neil Sebastian's music is another big strength to Kadaseela Biriyani. The climax appears to be a little rushed and we wish the second half of the film is also as arresting as the first half.

On the whole, it is a film that deserves a watch for its unique presentation, style, and original plot.
