Thillu Mullu Movie Review

Director: Sundar C
Cast: Siddharth, Hansika, Santhanam
Music: C. Sathya
Producer: UTV Motion Pictures

Theeya Valai Seyyanam Kumaru is a fresh, modern and stylish film where humour is built into the story. It is a triumph of Sundar C’s smart writing and packaging that leaves a smile on your face after the end titles roll.

Please note Sundar C has made a film without any double-meaning dialogues or slapstick comedy. TVSK is quite funny, to be honest not too complicated and indulgent. This engaging rom-com is sharply written, avoids cliches and the interesting twists are truly funny and entertaining. The pace is fast and the jokes come at furious speed.

To give credit where it’s due, the three leads Siddharth, Hansika and Santhanam do manage to invest that abundant energy, that enthusiasm in TVSK. The film works largely because the actors do wonders with their roles, and their chemistry is unbeatable.

Kumar (Siddharth) works in an IT firm and is a shy, introvert who finds it difficult to strike a conversation with a female. He is all in awe of his colleague (Ganesh Venkartram), a Casanova and smart achiever for whom all the women fall for. Enters Sanjana (Hansika) and our hero is smitten by her beauty. To improve his self-confidence and be smart he takes the help of a love guru Mokia (Santhanam) who advices him on how to win over Sanjana.

Santhanam as the fumbling-bumbling Mokia is once again on his toes and pretty much holds the film together. His comic timing and dialogue delivery is terrific. Siddharth as Kumar seems to have found his calling in comedy. Hansika has a meaty role, looks a million bucks with her lovely innocence and glamour. Her spot-on comedy, measured histrionics, and her immense likeability works big time.

Sundar C’s casting is perfect. The supporting cast of Ganesh Venkatram, Mano Bala, Devadarshini, Bosskey, Vidyu Raman, RJ Balaji, are all catalysts thrown in to spark off our three leads. RJ Balaji’s voice over introducing the lead characters and his role in the film goes with the mood of the film.

The music of Sathya is cool, with Azhagendral being the pick of the lot. TVSK might have been better if it did not have too many songs which as usual come as speed breakers. Praveen and Srikanth’s editing is racy and a fun watch.

Despite these minor hiccups, the film still works big time because of the inherent optimism in the plot and the sheer good-naturedness of its characters. Watch it, because it's the season to be jolly, and good laughs are guaranteed.
