Chandamama Movie Review

Movie: Chandamama
Director: Radhakrishnan
Cast: Karunas, Shwetha Basu

The audiences always believe that when a regular comedian does a full length film as hero, it should be a never a dull moment laughathon. However Karunas’s Chandamama is more melodrama than comedy and beyond a point becomes a big bore.

Santhanakrishnan (Karunas) is a little known novelist but his books lacks the essential twists and he remains a failed writer under his pen-name Chandamama. He meets a smart sales girl Mary (Shwetha Basu) who marries and she advises him to have more punch and real life experiences in his writings.

Yuvan (Harish Kalyan), an aspiring singer meets Mary and falls in love with her without realising that she is a married woman! Now the writer in Chandamama comes alive…

The trouble with the film is that director Radhakrishnan adds more melodrama and mush instead of comedy and film falls between two stools and ends up as a sentimental hogwash.

Karunas, instead of doing comedy does what is expected of a regular hero and at the end it looks like a 1960’s tear jerker!
