Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga Movie Review

Director: Pandiraj
Cast: Vimal, Sivakarthikeyan, Bindu Madhavi, Regina Cassandra,
         Delhi Ganesh, Muthuraman, Sujatha

Pandiraj makes small realistic films laced with comedy and essential commercial trappings. His latest outing Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga (KBKR), with upcoming stars Vimal and Sivakarthikeyan is a fun ride with a nice message.

The film works to a large extent as Pandiraj has got the mix correct. First half is a light-hearted comedy set in a small town, friendship between two ‘good-for-nothing guys’, running after girls and romantic misadventures, TASMAC bar drinking scenes and lots of comedy dialogues.

The second half brings the emotional factor in the form of ‘father sentiment’ and delivers a meaningful climax with a heart-warming message. The milieu is Trichy around Golden Rock (Ponmalai) railway station .

Two wastrels, Kesavan (Vimal) and Murugan (Sivakarthikeyan) are inseparable childhood friends. They are rolling stones and after many failed attempts are now trying to enter politics and contest for councilor elections. Mitra (Bindu Madhavi) and Pappa (Regina Cassandra) fall in love with Kesavan and Murugan respectively. They are always at loggerheads with their parents who are fed up of them. In a bid to turn a new leaf, they undergo emotional turmoil and this forms the rest of the story.

The comedy scenes involving Vimal, Siva and Suri are sure to bring the house down, especially the punchlines and funny situations. Sivakarthikeyan has the making of a comedy hero. His comic timing is terrific. Vimal is equal foil and does a decent job. The girls Bindu and Regina liven up the romantic scenes and the director has fleshed out their character in a believable manner. The scene where Bindu thrashes Vimal is a scream.

Like all other Pandiraj movies, it’s a family entertainer with a fantastic supporting cast like Delhi Ganesh, Muthuraman, Sujatha who play the parents of the erring boys. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music is in tune with the theme of the film.

The film works big time due to Pandiraj’s dialogues and presentation and it will especially appeal to the family audiences. Comedy and sentiments are packaged well to provide wholesome entertainment. First half could have been crisper, but still a thoroughly enjoyable comedy entertainer.
