Debutant director Prashanth Pandiraj has all the ingredients for a dark comedy in Bruce Lee, yet shaken and stirred they blend like oil and water. The storytelling itself is inconsistent. It’s up to GV Prakash as Bruce lee to breathe some life into this lazy film… which he does.
Ganesh aka Bruce Lee (GV Prakash) is a timid youngster, who is scared of everything including a butterfly!!! Our hero’s life goes well with his girlfriend (Kriti Kharbanda), friend Abbas (Balasaravanan) and his girlfriend until he accidentally clicks the murder of a politician (Mansoor Ali Khan).
The killer is a local gangster Godfather (‘Mundasupatti Ramdoss) who dresses, behaves and talks like characters in Hollywood classics. Later, Bruce Lee and his girlfriend click the second murder committed by Godfather!! Bruce Lee, Abbas and the girls want to bring these crimes to light and deliver all the pictures to the Commissioner of Police, who is a close aide of God Father!! What follows is a kidnap, comedy gags and climax.
Prashanth Pandiraj has a half-cooked script that doesn’t know where to go after setting up its delicious premise. Motta Rajendran and his jokes, imitating almost all big stars have become quite repetitive. Bala Saravanan does his job neatly while Musihkanth as Godfather is good. Kriti makes her debut in Tamil, looks pretty but she deserved a better script.
Sure you lament the absence of humour in the film and the climax scene where almost all the villains are electrocuted is a straight lift from a Priyadarshan comedy in 90’s. On the whole, Bruce Lee doesn’t have much going for it because the gags have been done to death, and the actors don’t seem particularly inspired either.
