Moreover, you will also be accompanied by a breathtaking scenery, thanks to a unique location of this city. Your history and culture trips will change into a truly magical experience and so you will see why Split is the Adriatic pearl.

First - thanks to a unique location. Split is scenically situated over the whole area of a gigantic peninsula along the Dalmatian coast. This peninsula enjoys a reputation as one of the oldest lands in all along the Adriatic coast, while the colours of the scenery vary from the crystal clear blue waters of the sea, to the lush green woodlands on the tip of the peninsula. Between this gorgeous natural landscapes are situated the true cityscapes of Split, which exhibit a unique collection of contemporary and historical scapes. Split definitely has a beautiful location between the sea and the mountains, but this unique location also played a major role for the fabulous historical background of the area. It was a thriving seaport  town along the Adriatic, as well as situated at the very crossroad along of the southern portion of Europe. Except that in the ancient times the distance took days of people to cross the paths through Split, nowadays this city is as fast as it is easily accessible from basically all over the world. You can begin your history and culture trip, for example, via air, thanks to a major airport that is situated just outside the bay of Split. Or, a complex transportation system by land offers an easy connection with the capital, as well as other large cities along the coast of Croatia. Not to mention the numerous marinas and seaports, which will seduce you to forget the air and the road, as well as enjoy a real floating experience to and in Split. This city is a unique choice for your history and culture trips, because of an abundance of interesting historical sights to explore, while the inspiring scenery enhances the overall experience with a beautiful collection of colours, scents, outdoor activities and much more. Meanwhile, a captivating mix of Croatian charm and Mediterranean charm offers a permanent accent to everything that surrounds you, while the best thing is that this mix can be felt in the air.

The hot summer months are perhaps the  best time to visit Split. It's not only for an air temperature of about 30 degrees Celsius, neither only for the warm waters of the sea or a sunny Mediterranean climate. It's also for the true essence of the scenery, which showcases its green colours through every tree and recreation park. The coastal breeze in the summer offers the greatest sense of refreshment, while this combination will seduce you to include a number of  landmarks in your daily trip list. People often gather in front the most famous historical landmarks and so the city is quite overcrowded, but  Split is also fulfilled by numerous completely isolated and tranquil green corners, which are best to escape from the urbanization and enjoy a few moments of relaxation. This unique combination might seduce you to stay for a quite longer vacation, which means more historical landmarks in your agenda. Churches, cathedrals, libraries, as well as plenty of old squares with historical buildings, are only a few of all the tempting places to visit in Split. Once you get to this city, a great idea is to visit the very coastline area, where stretches a long panoramic boardwalk right next to the tiny crystal blue waves. From the one side is the vibrant blue horizon of the harbour and the distant islands, while at the other side of the boardwalk stretch a multitude of historical houses with reddish rooftops and facades with beautiful decorations. Right between this conjunction of scenery and history you can come across numerous panoramic benches, which overlook everything from the both sides of the boardwalk. There are also tall green palm trees that exotically highlight the white silhouettes of the boats and the yachts, while this might only the beginning of your adventure. Enjoy a couple of minutes or even hours, and then explore the iconic historical landmarks, because they are really numerous. The Diocletian Palace, the Cathedral of St. Domnius and the National Theater are three of the greatest and world-renowned historical landmarks.

The Diocletian Palace should be high on your trip list, because it is the largest historical landmark in Split and it is actually more likely the historical symbol of the city. This palace is gigantic and it also enjoys a gigantic historical legacy from the Roman ages. More exactly, it was built in the very beginning of 4th century and it was dedicated to Diocletian - the Roman Emperor. The palace was built at the very coastline area and its adjacent proximity to the waters of the sea played a major role for the defensive outlook. This palace features a well-distinctive triangular shape, which was bounded by tall defensive walls and a multitude of towers. The inner section of the palace was crossed by a network of courtyards, as well as other tall buildings and fortifications. The wall that faces the sea is the only unfortified wall of the palace, which was mainly used for an easy access by the water. In the meantime, the water acts like a natural barrier and so the Diocletian Palace was one of the greatest fortifications in that bygone era. All the other three sides also included gates at each side, which facilitated the access even more. And so until the end of the Roman Emprie around the 7th century, from where begins the medieval age. Nowadays, in 21st century, the Diocletian Palace is a completely different place but it still keeps its wonderful historical charm and defensive outlook. Even a short impromptu trip around the walls is enough to pamper your mind with the vision of the ancient Roman civilizations, as well as enjoy a fabulous historical trip back in time. Well, the greatest experience might be enjoyed if you visit the palace from inside, as well as stroll around the stone streets and historical constructions that originate from a quite long age.

This mighty palace is situated at the end of the waterfront boardwalk and its gigantic defensive walls still dominate the entire skyline of Downtown Split. The walls are dotted by a wide variety of restaurants, cafeterias and other eateries, which will seduce you to stop for a while and enjoy a cup of refreshing coffee, for example, while exploring the panoramic vistas of the palace. Then, enjoy at least a couple of hours inside, where you will be impressed by a gorgeous collection of Roman architectures. Huge peristyles with lush decorated columns and arches are the most quintessential sights to witness. While strolling around the inner courtyards you will also be surrounded by   the tall facades of numerous inner buildings, of which cathedrals, churches, temples and other gorgeous landmarks. Actually, it's quite possible to lose yourself within the narrow stone streets, because they create something like a giant labyrinth. This is maybe one of the greatest attractions of the Diocletian Palace, because in this way you can completely return yourself to the bygone eras. There are also a few cafeterias and other amenities that provide all your comforts, while the Temple of the Aesculapius and the Cathedral of St. Domnius are two of the most famous landmarks to visit.

After your visit to the palace, make sure to enjoy a trip to the greenest jewel of Split - mount Marjan. It offers a breathtaking panorama of the city, especially in a clear summer day, when the fusion of the powerful sunshine and the invigorating coastal breeze creates an unforgettable sensation for all your senses. If you still need lots of historical adventures - visit the ancient town of Salona. It is situated at the northern side of the city and it features only ruins from the Roman age, as well as scenic green landscaping. The sunset offers a perfect fit to visit Salona, because all the ruins and scenic vistas are bathed by the golden rays of the sun.

This is it Split - a beautiful combination of history and scenery, while during your vacation you may find some difficulties to determine which of the two flawless characters of this city is most impressive. Finally, when you explore the Adriatic pearl - Split, Croatia, you may reach the conclusion that the both history and scenery of this city are unparalleled. And so your history and culture trips to Split will change into an unparalleled experience, which will seduce you to return to every summer or spring maybe, as well as explore new historical sights, monuments, museums, vistas, memories...

Plan Your Trip To One Of The Most Interesting Basilicas In Vatican City

When you are on the lookout for a getaway with a bit of history and bit of culture there are few places which will stimulate the mind in the same way that Rome does. One of the oldest cities in the world, steeped in history and full to the brim with points of interest and sights to see. Rome is one of those places which can grab you by all the senses and take a hold of you, taking you away in a bubble to a place and a time which seems far more extraordinary than anything you would expect from just a few hundred miles away from your home. There are precious few cities which can can capture and stimulate the imagination in a way which can even hold a candle to the Italian capital, making it the perfect spot for a cultural city break as an individual, a couple or a family.

The city is of course famous as being the centre of the Roman Empire and Catholic church. This mixture, brought to the boil in this melting pot of a city go some way to explaining why there has been so much great art, music and entertainment here for 2,000 years. Brought together with the natural passion that the Italian have for love, romance and pleasure and it is small wonder that there is so much here to stimulate your senses and entertain your mind.

The food is a prime example of the Italian way of thinking. Simple ingredients, done well in the hands of experienced and passionate cooks. When you think of the frescos which adorn the walls, or the statues that adorn the parapets and fountains across the city the same principle is very much in evidence. Frescos; a mixture of paint and plaster but blended together to form some of the most compelling pieces of artwork in history. Statues; hewn from single pieces of stone with tools but they find ways of representing the human body and emotions even in the hardest and coldest of mediums that make you quiver. Down every street, in every piazza and on every corner you will find something to engage with, and when it comes to a historical and cultural getaway, there are precious few cities which offer the combination quality and quantity the Rome does.

At the heart of the city - certainly spiritually - is St Peters Square in Vatican City. This giant plaza is set in front of the imposing St Peters Basilica. At its centre is an ancient Egyptian obelisk which itself has more history than many cities can offer with their combined artifacts. At 4,000 years old, it was brought   to the stand in the heart of the square in 1568. Surrounded on all sides by a series of gigantic Tuscan colonnades the Square is actually a circle, and this shape, safely nestled in the embrace of the countless  pillars ensure that, despite its vast size and openness, there is a feeling of security designed to be felt whether you are here when it is full to capacity with tens of thousands of people or you catch one of those rare moments where you have it all to yourself.

The walled enclave of the Vatican sits as an independent sovereign state and is worth visiting simply in virtue of it being the smallest state which is recognised by the international community. Despite having a population of a mere 800 people, they have an international football team, however the main reason for coming here is to immerse yourself in some of the most iconic religious buildings and vistas in the world. Any number of iconic moments in time have occurred here, and while we all recall seeing the iconic square filled for a papal address, it is worth remembering that people have been filling this space to listen to the pontiff for several hundred years and it is a testament to the great work by the religious community here that so many of the sites that you would wish to see and cherish have been kept in such fantastic condition despite being so integral to the area for hundreds of years.

The Basilica itself sits on the Tiber, a blue, winding river which threads its way through the city, traversed by ancient bridges, each of which is a work of art in its own right. In Italy, there are few things which are produced simply for the sake of function. It is important that they are also of tremendous beauty so take the time to walk here and engage with the same stones that have carried people up to the gates of the Vatican for several hundred years. St Peters overlooks these bridges and the river, dominating the landscape and bordered by beautifully maintained trees and landscapes to frame the pristine stone stone perfectly.

The building was designed by four of the  men who were responsible for making the  rest of the city such a feast for the eyes, and whether you know it or not the majority of work which will catch your eye in this city will have been commissioned, designed or influenced by the hands of Donato   Bramante, Michelangelo, Carlo Maderno and Gian Lorenzo Bernini. It is not the first church of Catholicism, nor the oldest or original, but  it remains the greatest church in the world, in virtue of its classic Baroque design and its proximity to the seat of papal authority in the Vatican. It is the burial site of St Peter   himself, and his tomb lies underneath the alter, drawing thousands of pilgrims and cultural tourists every year for a chance to experience and understand this unique area from a variety of viewpoints.

Inside, the basilica itself you can stand in the main atrium, looking up at the largest dome in the world. The main areas of worship are covered in priceless pieces of artwork and a wide array of golden figures, statues and sculptures, each with its own history and story to tell. The magnitude of the age of these items, coupled with the quality and quantity of them makes the basilica a unique spot to soak up culture, one which you dont need to be of Catholic origin to appreciate and enjoy.

In the tours to either side of the facade are two clocks, in which the oldest bell is 700 years old. In each of the aisles is a vast array of sculpture by the hands of some of the most famous artists in the world; people who unwittingly created a legacy which you can now enjoy. In almost any other city in the world you would have to catch a wide range of public transport, wrestling with a language you dont understand and operating in the uncertainty of total loss, but here, wherever you look you will see a piece of artwork that was painted, hewn or lovingly crafted by one of the great masters.

It is of course worth remembering that the Vatican itself represents only a fraction of what is on offer for your cultural and historical getaway to Rome. In many ways it represents in microcosm what the city itself has come to mean in the minds of many people around the world. It is here where art meets religion, two ideologies which are designed to flare the senses and stimulate the mind. They have both been nurtured by the passion of the Italians and as you leave the Square of St Peter and return to your hotel in Rome, you will realise that the condensed nature of what you have seen will have helped you to appreciate those little touches which nobody has been able to master in the same way that Italians have for the last 2,000 years. You will cross the Tiber and see a  corner of a building that you walked past before but barely noticed, and in many ways, that is the true gift that the Vatican offers to people of all creeds, cultures and relgious persuassions; the opportunity to appreciate the little things which perhaps before had gone missing. As you plan your cultural trip, why not plan even further ahead and come to the one city in the world which will help you to appreciate the culture and history that perhaps you had missed before when you return home.

« Reply #33 on: May 23, 2014, 02:44:22 PM »
The Most Holy Beijing Imperial Temple - The Temple of Heaven

Imagine a gigantic green park in a close proximity to the very center of Beijing and then, try to imagine that the park covers a green area of about 3 sq. kilometers. It is subdivided into a number of gardens, sub-parks, green corners and tranquil alleys, while the overall atmosphere also offers an unsurpassed historical charm. This historical sensation is created by the fusion of Earth and Heaven, which is mystically represented by squares and circles. Gigantic rounded constructions stretch high within the green skyline, while a number of other historical buildings dot the entire green park. You may really thing that you are in heaven and actually it's not just a dream. This is the most holy Beijing Imperial temple - the Temple of Heaven, which can transform your history and culture trips into something beyond the imagination.

Everything starts from an awesome location of the Temple of Heaven in only a few minutes' drive from Downtown Beijing. This mighty temple was built in the beginning of 14th century, when was carried out plenty of prays to heaven for good harvest. The temple complex is well-preserved until today and its gigantic area of nearly 3 sq. kilometers makes it one of the largest historical landmarks in Beijing. Thus, you may need even a couple of days to enjoy completely the beauty of the temple, because there are definitely lots of interesting sights to explore. What about the interesting places to stay in Beijing? Yet this is the capital of China and you can come across all your comforts. From a wide variety of accommodations and shops, to miracle restaurants and other eateries - you can easily find a perfect fit to stay. In a close proximity to the temple complex are situated numerous hotels and other lodgings, which are best to stay and enjoy a permanent historical harmony with the Temple of Heaven. The access to the temple is as fast as easy as well, for example - by bus and especially the metro. The entrance is via ticket, which varies according to a number of factors, for example - which places you want to include in tour visit. And finally - the Temple of Heaven is all yours and once you enter through its gates you will need only 0.1 seconds to forget about your everyday life and bustling atmosphere of the big city. The temple complex is often overcrowded and it's quite normal, thanks to a spectacular abundance of historical holy sites. For instance, if you enter through the North Gate - the first sight that can capture your senses is a long corridor, which is bordered by tall trees. A few seconds later you will be impressed by the well-distinctive silhouette of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, which is the real attraction. As soon as you get to it you will realize that the corridor is one of the shortest routes that lead to the main temple, while within the southern section of the complex are situated the Imperial Vault of Heaven and the Circular Mound Altar. They are quite more remote and they are the next great landmarks in the temple complex. There are plenty of other interesting sights and symbolic historical sites to visit, but let's begin with the first one - the greatest one.

This is the Hall of Prayer for good harvest. It features three levels of round roofs, whose proportions decrease as the height  increases. And it comes to about 40 meters above ground. The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests is in fact a gigantic symbolic construction, because its foundation features a gigantic squared area. Above the foundation rises a three-tiered marble base, which has a decreasing rounded shape,  while everything is topped by the rounded construction of the temple. Just remember  the symbolic meaning of the squares and the circles, and you will get a clear vision about the scale of this "symbolic meaning". Another striking feature of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests is its lush scenic decoration, which features reddish hues, wooden facades and a multitude of doors. If you enter inside the temple you will also realize that the symbolic meanings are just about to starts. There are four altars with twelve pillars, which represent the four seasons and respectively the twelve months. Then, continue your exploration to the south, where is situated a really long alluring alley - the Imperial Walkway.

It connects all the three groups of main temples, which means some hundreds of meters of a long scenic walkway. It also offers a unique illusion that you are walking along a corridor in a huge natural museum, because this walkways is edged by tall green trees and only the blue sky is the limit. A few minutes or hours later - you will get in front the gate to the Imperial Vault of Heaven. It is a beautiful replica of the Hall of Prayer, but it is quite more different. First, there is only one level of round marble base, as well as only one level of a rounded roof. Second, the Imperial Vault of Heaven and its compound stand over a huge circular foundation, which also features a couple of surrounding buildings with splendid historical architectures. The bright reddish nuances are everywhere and they create some really inspiring sensations. But the most impressive sensation is created by a nearly 6 meters tall rounded wall and the thought that once it provided an inspiring echo during the worshipers' prays.

A little bit to the south stretches the Circular Mound Altar which represents the fusion of Earth and Heaven through a really breathtaking way. There are only three levels of rounded marble terraces and series of steep stairs lead to the top of the highest terrace. From there, you can take advantage of a truly inspiring panoramic vista, as well as feel like you are in the center of the world. It's true, just because the three rounded  terraces depict the Man, Earth and Heaven, while everything stands over a gigantic platform with a squared shape. The panoramic vistas can seduce you to take a photo after a photo, especially at sunset, when you are high above the center of the world and everything around is magically bathed in the golden glow of the sun's rays. Overall, only the three major landmarks in the Temple of Heaven offer a really fabulous experience that you will never forget, but there are also plenty of other interesting sights to enjoy.

The Palace of Abstinence is the greatest of them and it is located at the very western side of the temple complex. The main purpose of the palace was as а point for holy procedures before prays for good harvest. Only a short walk trip around the ancient constructions and facades is enough to feel the mystical atmosphere of the palace, as well as enjoy the game of colours, shapes and textures. And everything is perfectly blended with the scenic shapes of the nature. Also, during your journey back through the ages when the Ming and Qing Emperors ruled these lands, a great idea is to make short impromptu trip nearby each of the three main temples. For instance, the Pavilion of Immolation is adjacent to the Circular Mound Altar, while right next to the Hall of Prayer is situated the Kitchen for Sacrifice. And they all are tempting sights to visit.

And finally - the relaxing sensation is perhaps the most important attraction to enjoy during your history and culture trips within the Temple of Heaven. Except for the main temples and constructions, the entire area of the complex is dotted by green trees and lush vegetation, which offer the best settings to enjoy a countless laid-back moments. Just a few examples: between the Hall of Prayer and the Palace of Abstinence you can come across the numerous smells and colours of the Flower Garden. Right next is situated the Rose Garden, while the Spray Fountain provides a really magical combination of history and romance. Enjoy the green colours of the nature that provide a perfect fit to unwind your mind, body and soul, and then jump again from the historical heaven to the 21st century's urbanization.

All the constructions and sites within the Temple of Heaven offer an unmatched opportunity to dive yourself in a captivating historical atmosphere, as well as enjoy a beautiful laid-back pleasure away from the urban noise in Downtown Beijing. You may need even more, than a couple of days to explore the most holy Beijing Imperial temple - the Temple of Heaven, but the journey is definitely worth it, because it would be filled with the finest history and culture trips in Beijing. Just seek and you shall be transported to a real heaven of history.

~ Explore Naples and Mount Vesuvius ~
« Reply #34 on: May 23, 2014, 02:48:36 PM »
Explore Naples and Mount Vesuvius

When you look through the latest holiday brochures do you despair? It is all pristine white, modern and minimalist. It is all the same. Where is the history? Where is the character?! You want a lot more from your holiday that carbon fibre and stainless steel because while these materials have valuable properties they dont have much in the way of soul. Soul is that ineffable quality that can only come from something with a real story to tell, and there are few areas across Europe that have a more detailed story that you can truly immerse yourself in than the bay of Naples in Italy.

Naples is one of oldest cities in the world, with Bronze Age Greek remains found here from as long ago as 4000 years. Where Rome was the mind of the Roman Empire, Naples was the beating heart, a vibrant city which was the cultural capital as the Empire rose and fell.  It was the most bombed Italian city during the Second World War and since then it has become a business centre in Europe. Evidence from all of these eras is still rife in this most enchanting of the Italian cities.

For your city break where history is the key dont forget that the food which has made the Italians famous for centuries hasnt changed much either. Why not take the time to look in one of the older bakeries, butchers or fish mongers and relish watching truly skilled craftsmen dealing with food in a way that hasnt changed for quite literally thousands of years. Not only that, you will be able to enjoy the fruits of their labour which will only serve to make the experience all the more pleasurable.

In addition, the restaurants offer a similar experience, taking you back in time to enjoy the simple ingredients, well cooked that were enjoyed by the people who helped to build this city several thousand years ago. Spend an afternoon in a cafe, spend an evening in a bar, but to appeal to that part of you that craves the authentic be sure to ask at your hotel for the spots which are off the tourist trail. It is here that you will find the very best food and the oldest recipes, cooked back through generations of the same family who havent tried to improve on perfection.

The city itself is an encyclopedia of architecture, with a combination of buildings from a variety of eras with a mixture of purposes. The main square in the city is the Piazza del Plebiscito which was built through the reign of two Kings of Napeles. The Royal Palace holds sway on the eastern side and the west is the domain of the church of San Francesco di Paola, highlighting the importance of both royalty and religion throughout the history of this part of the world.

The Teatro di San Carlo is nearby, a leading opera house which was built nearly 400 years ago and is the oldest of its kind in Italy. The loving restorations are a testament to the role that Naples played as the entertainment capital in Ancient Rome. Meanwhile, its importance as a port is shown by the number of castles which were built to ensure that this key city was protected at all times. Many of these sites offer wonderful walking tours with experts who know the buildings inside out; a real treat for those of you who appreciate the history of an area.

As you would expect, the bay itself is another place to soak it all in. There are a number of fishing vessels that still operate in the age old ways, and there are plenty of boat tours which can take you around the bay to visit some of the older sites in Europe in record time, while enjoying the beauty of one of the most unique pieces of scenery you will find. The crystal clear nature of the water is the perfect canvas to reflect the mountains nearby, and the scenes from the sky. If you want a break from the history and simply want to appreciate a great view, there are few better opportunities to fill up your photo album than with one of these beautiful trips. Best enjoyed when the sun starts to set behind the mountains or into the water itself these trips are treat whether you are traveling on your own, as a family or as a group.

However, if you are a fan of history then no trip to Naples would be complete without a visit to Mount Vesuvius. This famous volcano is still active and is the only one to have erupted on mainland Europe in the past 100 years, although it is best known for the eruption which took place in AD79. The mountain quite literally blew its top, blasting tons of rock, ash and lava up to 20.5 miles into the air and ultimately covering the two cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The heat that was generated turned many of the 16,000 who died to dust, but the remains of many others were covered and ultimately, perfectly preserved by the layers of ash which fell down on their bodies.

The upshot of this is one of the most   amazing archeological sites ever uncovered. Just a stones throw away from Naples in the heart  of Campania lies Pompeii which was almost entirely destroyed by the combination of ash, pumice, lava and sheer heat energy which was generated when the pressure inside the mountain grew so great that it ultimately pushed the top right off itself.

The city was initially rediscovered in 1599, about 1500 years after the initial disaster but it wasnt until 1748 when a Spaniard started the process of understanding exactly what went on here and what was to be found. The seal created by the ash meant that little or no moisture or air could get through to the artifacts which lay below ensuring that they remained almost completely free of oxidisation and decay for all those years.

Even the tourist industry here has a level of history, because people have been coming here to connect with the ancients for over 250 years. In fact, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Italy. It is a World Heritage Site as of 1997 and there are multiple tours which are available to anyone who is interested in Roman history, or geological history.

In many ways, the Bay of Naples is a perfect destination for any holiday, but there will always be that level of history which sets it apart as the stand out destination for people interested in Roman or general history. If you find that there is nothing you can do which is more relaxing than simply settling down and learning something new and interesting, then it is the ideal place to visit for some down time.

But while you are here make sure you dont neglect the present and indeed that which is timeless because there is no other part of Italy which so neatly connects the past and the present. The nature of Italy itself, and of the people is that they are impossible to separate from the past because they are so proud of it. No country works harder to preserve and nurture the evidence of their past, and in many ways, this is the true reason that your inner history buff will enjoy a trip to the Bay of Naples. Every time you walk down the street you will see a piece of stonework that is older than many countries. Every cobble that you tread on will have been trodden on by generations of locals for countless decades, even centuries.

If you are looking for a holiday destination with real character and soul then look no further, because the Bay of Naples is a destination that is completely unique. Not only are there the headline grabbing trips and destinations, the city itself is one long trip through the centuries, whether you are visiting the churches, the squares or the ancient city of Pompeii you are sure to find what you are looking for and a whole lot more in the beautiful city by the bay.

The best thing is that Potala Palace majestically towers the skyline of the village as an eternal beacon of history, culture and spiritual essence. It is so huge and captivating, and it features such a wide variety of interesting sights to explore from outside and inside, that you may need even a couple of days to enjoy it. So, the amazing historical charm of Lhasa can easily seduce you to stay for a couple of days, for example, and enjoy the unsurpassed legacy of the Potala Palace in the best way. Not to mention that you can find a wide variety of amenities, which can change your history and culture trips into a really unforgettable and special experience in Tibet.

From   a wide array of accommodations, shopping centers and amusements, to an even   greater abundance of green parks, tranquil historical streets and other landmarks to visit  - the village of Lhasa has a perfect fit to stay according to everyone's taste and stile. The miracle restaurants are also an attraction  that you can't miss, especially for the traditional taste of the Tibetan food. The amazing historical charisma makes also no exception of the entire charisma of Lhasa, while the Potala palace is perhaps the greatest place  to enjoy it. It comes to about 17th century, when the Potala Palace was the residence of the 5th Dalai Lama, while during the next centuries were added a number of constructions and details. Presently, while strolling around the streets of Lhasa it is quite difficult to imagine the atmosphere from that bygone era, because everything is highly-urbanized and dynamic. The sounds of hundreds of cars and other motorized vehicles will always remember you the place and time, in which you are, but only until you get in front the Potala Palace.

The options for visiting are numerous and even only a short impromptu trip around the surrounding square is enough to feel the majesty of the spiritual and political head of Tibet. The palace is often quite overcrowded, while the visits are conducted via tours that are led by guides or monks. You can also include a wide variety of sights during your tour and after a strict control at the entrance you can truly indulge yourself into the historical legacy of Tibet, as well as gorgeous shapes, details and colours of the history. Indeed, the iconic white and reddish silhouette of the Potala Palace can be enjoyed from far away within the city of Lhasa, but when you get to the spacious square in front the palace you will reveal a completely different point of view.

This square offers one of the most beautiful and inspiring points of view of the palace, thanks to stunning panoramic scenery. The open area provides unsurpassed settings to enjoy a 360 degree panoramic view, while  this view is also fulfilled with a number of striking sights to witness. For example, let's take the surrounding mountain peaks of Tibet, which dominate the skyline with their 5,000 meters above sea level. Their pale brown and reddish hues create a scenic accent to the clear blue sky, while the white formless clouds create a unique sense of refreshment. The palace is also surrounded by scenic green parks with panoramic walkways, while a couple of ponds and other water areas within the parks are some of the most idyllic places to enjoy the silhouette of the palace. A truly inspiring air plays a major role for that, while in the meantime, the calm waters of the ponds reflect everything above through quite a breathtaking way.

Potala Palace is one of the Tibet's most notable Buddhist sites and it features two major palaces - the White Palace and the Red Palace. The well-distinctive colours of the palaces create the overall outlook of the Potala Palace, while a trip around the squares is a perfect choice to feel the majesty of these colours. The White Palace covers almost the entire foundation of the hill and it is situated lower, than the Red Palace. It was first built by the 5th Dalai Lama as a housing residence of the government, but most of the present constructions were built during the reign of the 13th Dalai Lama. A unique Tibetan architectural style covers the entire palace. From flat roofs and long horizontal alignments, to a mixture of details and complementing colours such as orange, yellow and brown - the White Palace is a real architectural masterpiece.

And it is gorgeously topped by the Red Palace. The Red Palace covers the highest portion of the Potala Palace and it includes a number of constructions, mausoleums and chapels, which are dedicated to Buddhist prays. Moreover, the Red Palace is maybe the greatest attraction in all over the palace complex, thanks to plenty of complex details, murals, pillars, columns, miniatures and  much, much more. These scenic sights to witness represent the 5th Dalai Lama's reign   through a really inspiring way and that's not yet the greatest attraction. There are several chapels, where you can come across some breathtaking vistas. For instance, the North Chapel exhibits a gigantic golden stupa of the 11th Dalai Lama. Next is situated the West Chapel, which exhibits even more - 5 stupas of Dalai Lamas, while the most beautiful stupa is dedicated to the 5th Dalai Lama. It has a height of about 15 meters and it is decorated by thousands of jewels, as well as solid gold and sandalwood. Despite its smaller size, the Red Palace offers definitely some of the most stunning historical sensations within the Potala Palace.

This is it the Potala Palace - an amazing museum, which reveals the fabulous historical background of China through quite a captivating way. Just think again of the panoramic vistas of the majestic mountain peaks that surround the horizon. Then, try to imagine the spiritual and political head of Tibet - the Potala Palace in around the 17th century, when it was dedicated to the 5th Dalai Lama. Then, return again to the present days, enjoy an inspiring journey around and within the palace, and you will see why the Potala Palace is a really irresistible place for history and culture trips.

The army is dedicated to protect the Emperor in his afterlife and even today, about two dozens of centuries in the future, this army provides some of the most impressive and striking sights to witness that you can imagine. The historical background of the Terracotta Army is also impressive, because it was indeed discovered in the 80`s of the 20th century. The army was buried during most of this long period and so, nowadays, it is also one of the greatest archaeological discoveries in China. Even there are still undiscovered areas with ruins, where excavation processes take place. The Terracotta Army of Qin Shi Huang showcases a unique moment of the Chinese historical legacy, while your history and culture trips will be transformed into much more than an unforgettable experience. You will be a witness of hundreds of terracotta figures of chariots, horses and even thousands of warriors, and much, much more.

Let's begin with the warriors figures. They all are made out of terracotta and they are assembled in parts. And they all are unique! For example, the tiny differences between   the heights of the warriors suggest their   rank, such as officers, soldiers, etc. The images of their faces are also different, while another feature in the uniqueness of the warrior figures is their armament. Once they were accompanied by martial copies, swords, armor suits, spears and other weapons,   while there are only a few warrior figures with coloured equipment. This suggests that they have been also painted in the past, but the force of the time left only a few traces for  that. Nevertheless, even in their dusty brown-grey hues, the terracotta warriors are breathtaking sights to enjoy. The feeling becomes even more powerful and magical, when you consider their position. All the warriors stand in battle positions and they are arranged in long rows with a couple, three or more warriors in a line. The images of their faces offer a unique sense of majesty and domination, while the proportion of their bodies, arms, legs and all other parts are human-sized. So, you might be stunned by a feeling that you are surrounded by a real army and, more exactly, by an eternal army. What about the number of the warriors? They are subdivided in three different pits, as well as account over 8,000 warriors, officers and other humanoid figures. Except for the soldiers, these pits also include other figures such as musicians, artists and acrobats, and they all are human-like. And they all are unique.

Moreover, the Terracotta Army of Qin Shi Huang features hundreds of horses, chariots and cavalry men. You can also discover this awesome part of the army of the first Qin Emperor of China in the Qin Shi Huang`s mausoleum. The figures are larger and also impressive, as well as they are dedicated to protect the tomb and the Emperor in his afterlife. The chariots are led by four horses, while there are also figures of trooper soldiers that are accompanied by horses. In all cases - they create a breathtaking accent to the terracotta figures of the warriors, and they also can be found within the three pits. Pit One is the largest, but in Pit Two are concentrated most of the horses and the chariots. Overall, your journey to the tomb mound of Qin Shi Huang is a unique way to discover this important and captivating slice of the history of China. And your journey will also be fulfilled with a wealth of unforgettable emotions, thanks to the awesome location of the three pits, their different exhibits, as well as other facilities to explore.

Even a couple of hours might be insufficient to enjoy all the striking vistas within Pit One, because it is the largest one. It features a length of over 200 meters and most of its area is still not completely excavated. In Pit One are also located most of the human-like figures such as warriors, senior officers and drivers, while their number exceeds 6,000.  It's pretty impressive, because they are  arranged in 11 long corridors and they are accompanied by 8 chariots with four horses each. In Pit One you can take advantage of perhaps the most inspiring feelings during your history and culture trips, because this  pit is the largest and most spacious pit.  However, right next you can come across Pit Two, which makes also no exception of the overall captivating atmosphere of the Qin Shi Huang's tomb. This is the pit, where are concentrated most of the battle chariots with hundreds of horses, as well as terracotta figures of shooting warriors. Then, Pit Three is another magical place to discover. It is the smallest pit, but it has a significant importance in the Terracotta Army, because it was designated as headquarter. There is only one battle chariot with four horses in the pit, while the warriors are turned face to face and it looks like they communicate to each other. The horses and warriors within the three pits depict a well-distinctive period of the fabulous historical legacy of China and your journey will definitely be unique. You can also enjoy a couple of other facilities within the complex, such as exhibition hall, restaurant, shop and other amenities, which deliver the finest shapes of your unforgettable history and culture trips.

The Terracotta Army of Qin Shi Huang or, briefly, the "Terracotta Warriors and Horses" is one of the China's most important discoveries. This awesome piece of history depicts the legacy of China in a quite unique and magical way, which dates back to the 2-3 century BC. Nowadays, you can enjoy plenty of options to touch to the mysteries and secrets of this bygone era by visiting the Tomb Mound and the mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor. Just imagine the life of the Emperor and his army, the way they look, their power and strength... and the Terracotta Warriors and Horses can obviously "get alive" in front you. Once they were painted in vivacious shimmering colours, while presently they are changed into symbols of eternity. And yes, another great idea for your history and culture trips is to visit some of the most famous historical landmarks in the town of Xian. ~ Visit The Historical Lands of Burma ~
« Reply #37 on: May 23, 2014, 03:00:30 PM »
Visit The Historical Lands of Burma

The historical lands of Burma are famous as really sacred lands. This territory originates for such a long age, but the period between 9th and 13th century is perhaps the most intriguing period to explore. Visit the historical lands of Burma and you can jump back to these bygone eras through quite a breathtaking way. Then, the mighty Pagan Kingdom ruled almost the entire Southeast Asia and the Pagan civilization left for us plenty of spectacular shrines, temples and other ancient constructions. Your history and culture trips to these amazing landmarks can change into something really unforgettable and even mystical, because the combination of shapes and colours of the man-made constructions is perfectly blended with the combination of shapes and colours, which are made by the nature. For example, a great idea is to begin your trip with something really huge. This is a place, where countless giant pagodas and temples stretch high above the green canopies of the trees.

It comes to the ancient city of Bagan, which is situated at the bank of Ayeyarwady River, almost in the heart of Burma. Bagan was the ancient capital of the Pagan Kingdom, as well as thriving city with an unsurpassed and impressive charm. And it is perhaps the largest well-preserved city from its kind in Burma, because it covers an area of over 100 sq. kilometers. You will definitely need much more, than a whole day to explore all the architectural and natural beauties within the area, but once you see the giant pagodas of Bagan you will need only a blink of an eye to transport yourself to 13th century. Then, Bagan was still a major community and the best thing is that its vibrant lifestyle can be felt even today. A walk trip is enough to see the mysterious vistas of the scenery, especially if you enjoy a walk along the banks of the river. The open areas also provide a perfect fit to feel the majesty and the gigantic size of this ancient city, while a trip to one of the Bagan's pagodas is something unique. There are thousands of pagodas, temples and other historical landmarks that stretch high above the green trees, while the mist in the early morning offers the finest settings to feel the mystery of Bagan. The panoramic vistas are stunning, but a great idea is to get closer to the pagodas and reveal their entire majesty, because they all are unique. All the constructions vary in hues, shapes, details, height... Another great idea is to make your walk trip in a very early morning, when the entire scenery is bathed in the golden glow of the sunrise.

Continue your trip along the shores of Ayeyarwady River and you will be  surrounded by the refreshing sound of the sparkling water, as well as its relaxing blue colours. Then, enjoy another trip to one of  the many Burmese waterfalls and you can reveal the beauty of the nature through quite a breathtaking way. For example, Pwe Kauk Falls nearby the city of Pyin Oo Lwin are some of the most famous and beautiful waterfalls in Burma. And they are only an example. What about the outdoor   adventures that provides irresistible settings to enjoy the beauty of the nature? Hiking, picnicking and bird watching are only a few examples. Further, some waterfalls are accompanied by ancient constructions, such as shrines and temples, and they are  situated in a very close proximity to the waterfalls. Imagine the vistas at sunrise, when the warm ways penetrate through the lush green leaves of the trees and magically illuminate the crystal clear water. And you are somewhere nearby the water, enjoying the game of colours and nuances, as well as majestic historical atmosphere that create the mystical shapes of the shrines.

A walk trip or a scenic picnic within the beauty of the nature is a perfect choice for a relaxation and leisure, but you can enhance this experience through a visit to the city of Yangon, which also was an old capital of Burma. It is located nearby the southern coast of Burma and, there, you can find another impressive abundance of temples and other historical landmarks. However, there is a magical lake in the very center of the city - Kandawgyi Lake, which provides plenty of striking natural vistas with an unsurpassed historical charm. A walk around the green shores of the lake is enough to enjoy an illusion that you are in a historical paradise and, plus, somewhere along the shores of the lake you can spot the giant well-distinctive silhouette of Karaweik Hall. This is a floating royal barge, which is a unique ancient replica and it is covered in golden hues. The best thing is that Karaweik Hall is a huge floating restaurant and it offers an unforgettable combination of a miracle lunch, for example, with striking vistas of the lake. What a perfect choice for a romantic escape if you travel with your loved one? No matter your choice - the captivating historical atmosphere is a permanent part of everything that surrounds you.

The town of Mandalay is another place that you can't miss during your history and   culture trips within the Burmese legacy. This  is one of the largest towns in Burma, as well as ancient capital in the mid-19th century  and therefore it possesses a unique  historical charm with a multitude of   interesting landmarks to explore.    Sandanami Paya is one of the most impressive architectural masterpieces,  thanks to its white colours and plenty of detailed constructions. The largest of them is a giant pagoda, which is surrounded by a number of smaller stupas, and they all  feature white colours. This harmony of shapes and white colours provides some really inspiring sensations, especially if you stand at the foot of Sandanami Paya and look up to the sky. Imagine the vistas when the clear blue sky is dotted by only a few formless white clouds. But the city of Mandalay features another impressive historical landmark to visit - the Mandalay Palace. It is located within the northern portion of the city and it is a part of a remarkable squared park. This park is just gigantic and so you can also come across an abundance of historical sites to visit, such as the Palace Citadel, the king's mausoleum, as well as numerous bastions, towers and much, much more. They originate from the mid-19th century and they are just stunning sights to witness.

The ancient capital of Burma, Pagan, is one of the largest historical landmarks to visit, just because its thousands of pagodas cover an area with a quite impressive dimension. In a very close proximity is situated something even more impressive. This is the iconic Shwezigon Paya, which is a giant Buddhist pagoda. It plays a major role in the Buddhist religion in Burma and it is often visited by monks. Overall, the entire atmosphere of Shwezigon Paya delivers an inspiring essence of history and culture, but the vistas of this giant golden plate construction offer the most impressive sensations. The architectural style of Shwezigon Paya has a typical rounded stupa, which stretches high above a step-like construction. And this stupa is embraced by a number of smaller temples, and everything is covered in golden hues.

The Shwedagon Pagoda is similar, but only when you see it from quite a distance. Once you get closer to this giant pagoda you will  be impressed by its numerous complex  details and everything features giant proportions. Shwedagon Pagoda is situated  in the very center of Yangon and it is also golden-hued. And these are the only similarities. This giant pagoda stretches into the sky with a height of nearly 100 meters  and thus it is the largest Buddhist temple in Burma. The overall feeling from the vistas of the exterior is magically enhanced at sunset, when the golden sun's rays complement the golden plates of the pagoda through a very spectacular way. A  few moments later, Shwedagon Pagoda is bathed in its night lights, which are quite romantic as well, but mysterious and captivating in the same time. That's why Shwedagon Pagoda is a perfect choice to celebrate the beauty of the night in your yet beautiful trip within the Burmese history.

This is it Burma - a beautiful concoction of history, culture and nature. And this magical concoction offers the finest history and culture trips of your dreams. Just visit the historical lands of Burma and you will need only a few seconds to get back in these bygone eras, when the Pagan Kingdom was the major civilization in all over Southeast Asia. Then, the giant constructions were perhaps the most impressive way, through which the kings have shown their power, while the way they have enjoyed their architectural masterpieces is definitely beyond the imagination.

~ Kyoto - Japan's Ancient Capital ~
« Reply #38 on: May 23, 2014, 03:03:45 PM »
Kyoto - Japan's Ancient Capital

Kyoto - Japan's ancient capital is so beautiful city, that you will be impressed much more by its unsurpassed scenery, than its historical landmarks. However, Kyoto is a beautiful paradise for history and culture trips, because the fabulous historical legacy of this city is depicted in a quite magical way. It comes to a magical combination of temples and shrines with multi-coloured gardens and recreation parks. Or, just imagine the caressing rays of the sunset, which are magically reflected by a calm blue pond, surrounded by tall green trees, while right above the trees stretch a giant ancient pagoda. And these are only a few examples of the beautiful historical sites that await you in Kyoto. Take a look!

The harmony between the Buddhist temples and their surrounding garden landscaping plays a major role in the historical background of Kyoto. There are numerous periods which mark different perspectives, understandings or interpretations about the formation of the gardens, but all of them are spectacular sights to witness. Nowadays, you can immerse yourself into these bygone eras only by a short impromptu trip to one of the many historical parks in Kyoto. The huge urban area of this ancient city is even naturally bordered by tall mountain hills, while nearby the northeastern section is located a huge lake. This beautiful fusion of nature can be felt everywhere within Kyoto, because some of the parks are so gorgeously shaped, that they look like minimalistic models of the Kyoto's surrounding scenery. Then, add some of the most famous, impressive and gorgeous historical monuments in Japan, and you will get a clear picture why Kyoto is a unique place for history and culture trips. For example, a great idea for the beginning of your trips is to visit Kinkakuji Temple, which is also known as the Temple of the Golden Pavilion. It is located along the northwestern section of Kyoto and it is scenically nestled between the vibrant cityscapes from the one side, and the tall mountain peaks from the other side. Right between this beautiful harmony of nature is also nestled the unique Kinkakuji Temple complex, which includes a number of historical buildings, a couple of ponds and lots of green colours. They are created by a mixture of the tall green trees, stones with shrubs and other green plantation, while the Golden Temple itself is a unique symbol of the Zen Buddhist culture. Numerous small and green-topped islets or even just rocks appear above the calm water surface of the pond, while the three-story construction of the Temple offers a unique architectural vision from the end of 14th century. Well, the golden hues of the tallest floors highlight the surrounding vivacious colours of the garden in a quite breathtaking way, especially in the summertime.

If you think that the historical scenery of  Kyoto is unique - then, make a short trip of nearly one kilometer southward. Between the green hills of the mountains and the vibrant cityscapes of northwestern Kyoto, you can find the stone garden of Ryoanji Temple. There, you can also dive yourself into something much more unique, impressive  and abstract. It comes to a number floating stones, or at least they look like so. Indeed, these rocks are much more beautiful and inspiring than they look like, because the garden of Ryoanji Temple enjoys a   reputation as one of the greatest Zen gardens in all  over the island. It originates from the  mid-15th century, while presently you can pamper your mind, body and soul with the finest essence of a meditation as soon as you witness these stones. They are inspiringly blended with green pruned trees, bushes, sands and numerous colours, while the square shape of the surrounding area looks like a pond. This illusion makes you think that these are floating stones, while the nearby green scenery gently enhances the overall sensation of a spiritual freedom. Enjoy a couple of minutes, hours, or even a whole day in watching the stones and then enjoy a short trip along the historical trails within Ryoanji Temple complex. Enjoy the shadow of the tallest trees and prepare yourself for the next stop in your historical journey.

The Heian Shrine is another scenic historical place to include in your trip list. It is located at the opposite, eastern, side of Kyoto and it is a large historical park, which is embraced by the cityscapes of eastern Kyoto. Therefore, the Heian Shrine and its park are not only an irresistible place for a relaxation, but they are also a unique place to discover the amazing cultural legacy of Kyoto. First, the shrine itself is one of the most notable shrines in Japan and it includes a huge castle complex, which is the main construction. It is complemented by numerous other buildings and shrines, which surround a large inner square. The reddish colours of the facades of the constructions are finished by the contrasting greenish hues of their rooftops, which combination is just stunning. Meanwhile, make sure to spend at least the half time of your visit within the picturesque Japanese Garden that surrounds the temple complex. At the southeastern corner you can come across a huge pond, which is crossed by another historical construction - a massive bridge. Plus, this bridge offers a bunch of unparalleled vistas, thanks to calm waters of the pond that are actually a huge natural mirror. It reflects all the green colours of the garden and these vistas are even more impressive on a clear day, when the sky is so pure that it looks like it is endless, while only a couple of formless white clouds beautifully disrupt that harmony.

Also in eastern Kyoto and only a couple of kilometers southward from Heian Shrine is situated another famous historical landmarks that you can't miss. This is the Buddhist Kiyomizu-Dera Temple, which was built in  17th century, but the origin of the site dates from the end of 8th century. The temple complex stretches over a scenic hill outside the cityscape, while the nearby green  scenery creates another inspiring accent to the yet remarkable buildings. Don't forget to buy a souvenir from your trip and then enjoy a trip to one of the greatest historical landmarks in Kyoto - the Imperial Palace. It is located right in the heart of the northern section of the city and it features a well-distinctive rectangular shape. It was the site, from where the Emperor ruled his kingdom in the past, while nowadays - the entire area of Kyoto Imperial Palace is a magnificent place for a relaxation, leisure and captivation, as well as escape from the noise and pressure of the streets. Meanwhile, during your scenic walks within the grounds of the palace you will also be surrounded by numerous historical buildings and monuments. The unique shape of the area includes numerous enclosures, which respectively contain the Inner Palace, the Imperial Gardens, numerous water bodies, gates and other interesting places to visit. The complex of Kyoto Imperial Palace is perhaps the largest public park in the city and thus even a whole day might be insufficient to enjoy all the historical vistas and buildings, but just a short impromptu trip is enough to dive into the unique historical charm of the area.

All the historical and cultural landmarks in Kyoto are stunningly blended with the surrounding scenery, which also means that you can take advantage of a completely different atmosphere throughout the year. For instance, the snow in the wintertime offers plenty of white nuances over the unique landscaping of the temples, while the golden glow of the sunset enhances this fairytale ambiance beyond the limits of the imagination. However, the spring offers the most colourful sensations to enjoy, because all the flora species around the temples bloom with countless colours and smells. Hirano Shrine is such a magical place and it is located in western Kyoto, in a close proximity to Kinkakuji Temple and Ryoanji Temple. Once you enter through the iconic reddish gates you will enter into a completely different world. This is a world of numerous cherry blossom trees, tranquil walkways, historical sights and an unforgettable array of smells. Relax and unwind your body and senses, and then wait for the last rays of the sunset, which deliver some of the most breathtaking concoctions of colours that you can imagine, especially in the crisp spring.

This is it Kyoto - an unparalleled harmony of history and scenery. From the huge several-storey ancient pagodas, to the splendid colours of the temples and the vivacious colours of the nature - you can come across a unique paradise during your history and culture trips in Kyoto. The summer is also best to enjoy the cozy touch of the sunshine, while the spring is best to enjoy the bloom of the parks. Well, the unique historical charm is everywhere, because this is the city of Kyoto - Japan's ancient capital.

~ Jerusalem - A City of Three Faiths ~

Jerusalem - A City of Three Faiths

It's not a wonder that Jerusalem offers some of the greatest options for history and travel trips in the world, as Jerusalem is also one of the oldest cities in the world. It's impressive historical background originates from a number of millennia BC, while nowadays, Jerusalem is a completely different world. It is fulfilled by modern buildings, luxury shopping centers, shiny restaurants and other contemporary amenities, which make it one of the largest cities in Israel. Nevertheless, the Old City of Jerusalem still keeps its unique historical charm and it offers you a truly magical experience back in time. Dive into the bygone eras and enjoy something special in Jerusalem - a city of three faiths!

Perhaps the oldest city in the world is scenically located between the hills of Judean Mountains in central Israel. You can easily get to Jerusalem as well, thanks to a complex of roadways that grant an easy access to the capital Tel Aviv. Therefore, Jerusalem is located only about a half hour's drive east from Tel Aviv, while as soon as you witness the gorgeous mountain landscaping of the area you will need only a couple of seconds to feel the charm of Jerusalem. It is a truly beautiful modern city with an impeccable hospitality, clean streets, numerous recreation parks and a wealth of iconic landmarks to visit. Jerusalem is also a city of contrasts, because nearby the Downtown you can come across the Old City of Jerusalem. The first signs for settlement of this city are described in the Bible and it is considered that they originate in around the 10th century BC. The Old City of Jerusalem is definitely one of the oldest cities in the world, while the next centuries in its yet long historical background include periods of takeovers and rules of different religions. In this way, the Old City of Jerusalem is a place, where three major religions have faced a common faith - to become an eternal symbol of history and culture. While strolling around the ancient streets or along the defensive walls, which were built during the reign of the Ottoman Empire in 16th century, you can find three major quarters - the Islamic Quarter, the Christian Quarter and the Jewish Quarter (with a subdivision for the Armenian Quarter), and each of them offers a different atmosphere, different emotions, as well as symbolic landmarks to visit.

The first major sight that welcomes you while entering in the Old City of Jerusalem is, of course - its surrounding defensive wall. It   was built in 16th century and it still depicts  the defensive vision of the ancient Ottoman  rulers in a quite magical way. With a  thickness of nearly 3 meters and a height of over 5 meters, this wall is really  well-reserved. Most of its gates are open, while nearly a dozen towers majestically dominate the highest perspectives. Once   you are at the other side of the wall, a great idea is to begin your history and culture trips by a visit of the Wailing Wall. It is located at the northeastern corner of the Jewish Quarter and it features a height of nearly 20 meters above ground. This wall is one of the holiest symbols of the Judaism and you can often be a witness of numerous people praying at the wall. The Wailing Wall also faces a spacious square, from where you can take some of the most beautiful panoramic pictures of the Jewish Quarter and its old houses with white facades that tower the skyline. There is also a bookstore and many other interesting things to do and see within the square, while the wall itself is a part of another iconic landmark to visit - the Temple Mount. It is surrounded by a defensive wall and it is dominated by the gorgeous golden colours of the Dome of the Rock.

It is the next historical stop in your journey while, in the meantime, the Dome of the Rock is also one of the highest landmarks in the Old Town of Jerusalem. Is huge golden dome stretches high over the Temple Mount, to create some of the most beautiful and inspiring vistas within this part of the Old City. The contrast is also stunning, because the surrounding buildings are relatively lower and the area of the Temple Mount is relatively spacious. Your tour within the Dome of the Rock will be filled with an abundance of historical sights, while another fabulous feature of this shrine is that it is the keeper of the Foundation Stone. It symbolizes the holy harmony between Earth and Heaven, while the entire historical atmosphere is just mystical. Not to mention that the complex details within the interior of the shrine include a number of mosaic, marble and other artworks, which will simply take your breath away. Right next to the Dome of the Rock is located the Dome of the Accession, which is also a place that you can't miss or at least take a few pictures. Meanwhile, the panorama from atop the Temple Mount is just spectacular, especially at sunset, when the entire vibrant horizon of the Old City of Jerusalem is bathed in the golden glow of the sun's rays. Just before the sun sets over the horizon, make sure to enjoy a short walk within the Islamic Quarter. It is adjacent to the Temple Mount from the north, while its picturesque narrow streets can really make you forget about the place and time in which you are. The facades of the old stone buildings are so close to each other, that the width of the most of the streets is only a couple of meters. Nevertheless, these ancient streets are dotted by shops, eateries and other colourful places, which will somehow always remember you that you are in 21 century. By contrast, a number of stone staircases, small squares, tunnels and other ancient construction create a permanent illusion that you are in some really bygone era, especially at sunset.

A few moments later - when the sun goes down the Old City of Jerusalem changes into a completely different world. The mystical dark silhouettes of the tallest construction dominate the air, which is illuminated by the common bright aura of the modern city. The thriving life along the ancient streets also changes its colours, because the people are gone and the shops are closed, but the   night lights create a magical concoction of colours and shades. In this way, you can reveal the real spiritual and cultural flavor of the Old  City of Jerusalem, while its unique historical  charm can be smelt even in the   air. The night temperature of the air slightly drops and so the air is one of the most invigorating things to enjoy after the inspiring vistas. Then, a great idea is to get back in your hotel room, for example, relax and "charge” your batteries, because the next day also might be fulfilled with a wealth of historical sensations. Even to wake up in Jerusalem early in the morning would be a really magical awakening, thanks to the warm glow of the sunrise and the thought that you are in one of the oldest cities in the world.

The Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem is the right place for the end of your history and culture trips. This quarter covers the entire northwestern portion of the Old City and it is also dotted by a wide variety of ancient streets with stone facades, tunnels, stairs and much, much more. The bustling atmosphere is complemented by numerous shops that sell fabrics and other textile goods with an even wider array of colours. Despite its vivacious lifestyle, the Christian Quarter also features plenty of green corners and open areas, where you can enjoy the unique historical vistas or at least take a few pictures. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre should also be high on your trip list, because it is considered as the place of the resurrection of Jesus. Overall, this is one of the most significant places to visit during your trip of the Christian Quarter of the Old City, while if want to enjoy all the spectacular sites, such as churches, souks, streets and houses, then a great idea is to spend even more than a whole vacation in the holiest of the holiest cities - Jerusalem.

The Old City of Jerusalem depicts in a quite magical way the historical fusion of three main religions - Christianity, Judaism and Islam. That's why you will need only a short impromptu trip to dive yourself into the captivating ancient charisma of Jerusalem - a city of three faiths. Well, make also sure to visit some of the most famous historical landmarks within the quarters of the Old City of Jerusalem and you can take advantage of perhaps the most unforgettable history and culture trips in all over the Middle East.

~ Jal Mahal - The Water Palace of Jaipur ~
« Reply #40 on: May 26, 2014, 02:09:35 PM »
Jal Mahal - The Water Palace of Jaipur

In northern India and right within the northern portion of Jaipur City is located one of the most irresistible places to visit in all over the country. This place becomes even more tempting, especially if you love history and culture trips with lots of stunning natural hints that can take your breath away as well. It comes to the amazing Jal Mahal - the water palace of Jaipur. It's not only a unique location in the heart of a lake, neither only the striking vistas of the surrounding mountains, that make this place unique. It's all about everything at once, while the beautiful historical construction of the palace majestically rises right in the middle of this natural paradise. The only thing that you will need is a solid memory card for your camera, because you will be tempted to take a photograph after a photograph, but make also sure to be prepared for some of the most impressive moments in the historical legacy of Jaipur - one of the most remarkable cities of India.

Jal Mahal gorgeously stands in Man Sagar Lake, while you can easily get to this area via car, bus or bike, thanks to a number of roads that embrace the lake. Indeed, a bike trip to the lake is one of the most appealing ways to enjoy a bunch of panoramic vistas of Jal Mahal even on your way to it. The distance from Downtown Jaipur is nearly 10 kilometers, which also means that you can include in your trip list some of the most famous historical and cultural landmarks in Jaipur. This city is one of the most beautiful cities in northern India, where you can definitely lose yourself within the dozens green corners, historical parks, picturesque gardens, museums and many other interesting places to visit. Jaipur is a thriving modern city, where numerous amenities create the finest shapes for a really unforgettable vacation, however, when it comes to a really unforgettable historical journey back in time with a countless stunning sights of the natural landscapes, then you will definitely need a day or even more to explore the unrivaled natural and historical beauty of Jal Mahal. It originates from a couple of centuries ago, while its impressive historical background includes periods of renovations, additions of new constructions and many other interesting moments to explore. Nowadays, Jal Mahal is an incarnation of beauty, majesty, glory and symbolism. It is one-of-the-kind palace in all over the state of Rajasthan, while its location makes it even more unique and inspiring site to visit. In addition, the surrounding areas of this enormous palace are blessed by unsurpassed scenery, which is always a real feast for the eyes and the soul. That's why the "water palace" of Jaipur is one of the most irresistible historical landmarks to visit in northern India.

This is quite a strange mixture of man-made historical masterpieces and landscape masterpieces that are made by the nature, but once you see this combination from the shores of the lake you will need only 0,01 seconds to forget about the place and time   in which you are. First, Man Sagar Lake is scenically nestled within a number of smooth mountain hills. The tallest of them feature a height of over 600 meters while the calm   blue waters of the pond magically reflect everything, mentioned above. From the shore, the calm surface of the lake looks    like a giant natural mirror, while the history    of this lake is also impressive. It was actually  created after the 16th century to collect the important fresh water for the people in the ancient city, while its creation was a natural consequence of the building of a dam. Presently, the dam is located at the southeastern side of the lake and it offers some of the most spectacular vistas of the palace. Yes, the lake is one of the most beautiful natural highlights of the area, but the second amazing accent is created by the mountain hills. They picturesquely border the lake from all the sides, except for the cityscapes of Jaipur that cover the southern side of the lake. These hills inspiringly stretch over the horizon and they create a unique sense of a natural shelter. Plus, they are dotted by a wide variety of flora and fauna species, as well as panoramic trails and numerous historical forts, temples and other interesting sights to witness. The third natural accent in this unrivaled fusion of history and scenery is the entire shoreline of the lake, which is transformed into a peaceful bird sanctuary. Some of the most graceful birds that you can witness are the pink silhouettes of the flamingoes, which often take advantage of the rich in algae species shallow waters. This concoction of colours and shapes is something that you will never forget, while if you add the power of the weather in this pleasure of history and nature - then, you will get the right recipe for a really unforgettable experience. For example, the rains in August and September provide countless little drops of water, which magically coalesce with the calm surface of the lake, while the freshness of the humid air is just pleasant. What about the vistas at sunrise or sunset, when this natural mirror reflects the sun's rays in a quite inspiring way?

It's definitely beautiful, but the historical facades of the palace absorb these sun's rays in an even more mystical way. Imagine that you stand along the shore of the lake facing the palace, while everything that you see is bathed in the warm glow of the golden sun's rays. This is perhaps the greatest choice to begin your trip to the palace itself, because the only way to get to it is via water. An ancient wooden boat takes you to the palace, while during your short boat tour you can also take advantage of some of the most tranquil and captivating perspectives to watch the palace, the scenery... The smells are also beautiful, especially in the crisp mornings of September. After your short magical boat trip, you can explore the newly reconstructed Jal Mahal from a much closer distance. It will inspire your imagination through its awesome reddish hues, because it is made out of sandstone, while numerous arches, columns, windows and other ornaments gorgeously highlight the unique architectural style of the palace. It features a mixture of Rajput and Mughal architectural hints, while four tall towers with cupolas are situated at the corners of the palace and they dominate the clear blue sky. Jal Mahal is also dominated by its scenic gardens atop the roof, which include several green trees and other vegetation. These green colours provide an additional inspiring accent to the entire scenery, but one of the most amazing things about this palace is that only three fourths of its constructions are visible. Jal Mahal is a four-storey palace, but its first floor is entirely submerged. So, you can easily create an overview about the ancient shapes of this palace, when the surrounding lands were dry, but this is a matter of imagination. In all cases - the unique historical charm can be felt even in the air.

After or before your history trips to Jal Mahal, a great idea is to take a few pictures of this unique place, which is also one of the   easiest ways to memorialize your journey.  And there are so many hot spots for taking pictures that finding the best spot might be transformed into another fabulous attraction. For instance, after a short hike adventure to the top of a hill you can enjoy the   spectacular panoramic vistas, which are breathtaking. The highest points of view are also best to capture the  last rays of the golden sunset, while the dam along the southeastern side of the lake is another picturesque place that  you can't miss. Or, what about taking photos a few moments after the sun goes down? Just imagine the entire historical atmosphere when the day turns into a night, and when the mythical night lights of Jal Mahal are the only lights over the lake. And they are still inspiringly reflected by the calm surface of the water. Maybe these reflections showcase the first floor of the palace... Who knows?

Your history and culture trips to Jal Mahal - the water palace of Jaipur can definitely change into an absolute pleasure of everything that you see, listen and smell. It comes to the unique splendor of the unique scenery of this palace, as well as unique historical background of its unique architectural shapes. Just make sure to have lots of memory on your camera, because everything is beautiful and so you will be seduced to take countless photos or even make a whole album. In all cases - you can dive into the captivating historical charm of Jal Mahal even while floating to this masterpiece of history and nature.

India's Golden Triangle

India is a truly unsurpassed treasure when it comes to history and culture, because this country features an impressive historical legacy. One of the best ways to enjoy such an experience is during a trip around the India's Golden Triangle. As its name suggest, this trip has a triangular shape and it is highlighted by the capital New Delhi, as well as some of the largest cities in northern India - Agra and Jaipur. These three cities possess such an abundance of historical and cultural landmarks that you may need about a week to complete the trip. However, the journey is definitely worth it, because it offers one of the finest history and culture trips in the world.

Delhi

A great idea is to start your adventure from New Delhi. This is the capital city of India and it covers one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world. Moreover, New Delhi possesses a unique mixture of traditions and cultures, which plays a major role for the unsurpassed abundance of landmarks to visit. The bustling streets are dotted by a wide variety of hotels and other lodgings, where you can find your own lovely place to stay, while a bunch of eateries, shops and other amenities offer all your comforts. What about the historical experience? It begins as soon as you witness the gorgeous old houses within the Old Town of Delhi, as well as visit some of the most famous historical landmarks. It's not only the Old Town, which is a real historical paradise. Indeed, everywhere around the city you can come across something ancient, spectacular and monumental. Even the shores of Yamuna River are bordered by huge and world renowned historical highlights, while the river itself creates a beautiful accent to everything around. Well, make sure to include in your trip the famous Jama Masjid, which is the main mosque in the Old Town of Delhi, as well as largest mosque in the country. Jama Masjid is located nearby the southwestern side of the Red Fort, which is another important landmark to include in your trip. But Jama Masjid is one of the best-distinctive landmarks, thanks to its awesome Islamic architectural composition from the mid-17th century. A spacious rectangular courtyard is surrounded by walls, while a central object within the square is a huge rectangular pool. This pool is exactly the right place where you will be captivated by the whole beauty of the mosque. The huge domes are majestically accompanied by two 41 meters-tall minarets, which create a unique sense for majesty and beauty. Sandstone and red marble are the main materials, and they deliver the remarkable reddish hues of the facades, the minarets and the other constructions. There are lots of things to see inside the mosque such as the gigantic prayer hall, but your will be also impressed by the gorgeous arched entrances and their lush decorations. Overall, even a whole day might be insufficient to enjoy the beauty of Jama Masjid from outside and from inside, while this day would be a great introduction of the following experience.

Let's continue your trip in New Delhi with a visit to Laxminarayan Temple, which is also known as Birla Mandir. It is situated a couple of kilometers west from Jama Masjid mosque and the best way to get to this landmark is during a ride through the dynamic atmosphere of central Old Delhi. Finally,  when you are in front Laxminarayan Temple you can feel a unique concoction of   emotions, because of all the colours and architectural shapes that will capture your mind. It`s true, because Laxminarayan  Temple is one of the most beautiful and popular  Hindu Temples in the country, as   well as features a unique Nagara  architectural style. A wide variety of pale-yellow painted constructions are spread over a huge area, which is bordered from the one side by a major road, while from the other side stretches a huge green park. Plus, these shrine constructions are dominated by three tall towers with reddish hues, while everywhere within the temple you will be surrounded by cotta stones, marbles, carvings and other scenic decorations. Laxminarayan Temple is a truly beautiful Hindu temple!

Agra

Then, enjoy a couple of hours' drive south to Agra, which is the second point of the India's Golden Triangle. Agra is also a large and beautiful city, which is situated on the bank of Yamuna River, but there you can visit perhaps the most romantic and gorgeous building in the world - the great Taj Mahal. It is a huge white marble mausoleum, which was built in 17th century and it was dedicated to Mumtaz Mahal, the wife of Shah Jahan. This mausoleum uniquely depicts the great love of the Mughal emperor through quite a beautiful way. First, the location of the mausoleum overlooks the blue waters of the river, while its other side is complemented by scenic gardens, walkways, waterways and a giant fountain. Taj Mahal is a real cultural jewel of India, as well as unique symbol of the historical heritage of the country. During an exploration tour of the exterior you will be impressed by the white colours and hues, which are everywhere. A giant central round dome dominates the entire mausoleum, while it is also accompanied by four smaller domes. Plus, Taj Mahal is dominated by the inspiring height of four minarets, while the overall Mughal architectural design is enhanced by a wide variety of carvings, arches and other ornaments. There are so many things to see outside and inside Taj Mahal that you will definitely lose any orientation about time and dimensions. Even you can take full advantage of several optical illusions, which can provide a truly spectacular sensation. For example, imagine the gorgeous white marble facades of Taj Mahal at sunset, when everything is sprinkled by the golden glow of the sun's rays.... What about the calm waters of the pools, which magically reflect the silhouette of the mausoleum? And these are only a couple of examples.

Jaipur

Drive about 200 kilometers west from Agra and you will get to the third point of the  India's Golden Triangle. It comes to the historical  city of Jaipur, which is scenically nestled between numerous mountain hills. There, you can come across all your  comforts - from large hotels, small family-oriented hotels, private and luxury villas to stay, to an abundance of exquisite restaurants, cafeterias, shops, and other eateries. Even the traditional food in the   local restaurants can tell you much more about  the historical legacy of Jaipur, while definitely the best way to enjoy this legacy at its maximums is by a trip to some of the most remarkable historical monuments. Yes, there are plenty of landmarks to see, but one of the greatest of them is the unsurpassed Hawa Mahal palace. It is located at the conjunction of two main roads nearby the Downtown and it is almost impossible to miss the palace during your trip. The exterior of the palace features 5 levels of lush ornate frameworks and nearly a thousand of small windows. The reddish hues of the main facade are delivered by a unique harmony of red and pink sandstone materials, while their overall composition creates a truly breathtaking and spectacular backdrop to the yet highly-urbanized cityscape. In addition, these 5 levels of masterpieces stretch to nearly 15 meters above ground, which makes them really remarkable, especially at sunrise. That's why the exterior of Hawa Mahal palace is a sight that you can't miss during your history and culture trips to Jaipur, but also make sure to enjoy the interior of the palace.

A tour within Hawa Mahal palace is also the best way to explore its impressive historical charm, as well as learn some of the most interesting facts about it. The palace was built in the last year of 18th century, but recently it was restored and renovated. The palace is reminiscent of the crown of the Hindu god Krishna, which is uniquely depicted by the pyramidal shape of the exterior. The interior also includes numerous chambers, from where the royal persons were hidden from the outer world, but yet they were able to observe this world through the numerous small windows. Hawa Mahal is part of the City Palace, where is situated the main entrance to this amazing construction. Everywhere around you will be embraced by scenic Islamic Mughal architectures and decorations, while when you enter through the imperial door you will enter into a different world. It is a world of red and ping colours, lots of miniature sights, as well as unsurpassed mix of history and culture.
