Vellakkara Durai Movie Preview

Cast:  Vikram Prabhu, Sri Divya, Soori
Director: S.Ezhil
Production: G.N.Anbuchezhiyan
Music Director: D.Imman
Lyricis: Yugabharathi, Vairamuthu

Director Ezhil has proved his mettle in handling all human emotions. Vijay starrer ‘Thulladha Manamum Thllum’ and Ajith starrer ‘Poovellam Un Vasam’ would speak loads for his deft in handling romance and emotions between family relations. Both the films are important super hits of its respective lead actors who have become leading stars today.

Lately Ezhil has started concentrating more on comedy. His recent films ‘Manam Kothi Paravai’ is one of the early films of VJ turned actor Siva Karthikeyan and the film used his comic potential and become a decent hit. His next film ‘Desinguraja’ is also a comic film aimed at making the audience laugh and the film did what it is expected to do.

Now the director is ready with ‘Vellaikara Durai’. The film, starring Vikram Prabhu and Sridivya in lead roles is said to follow the same genre. Vikram Prabhu who has proved his mettle in action in his earlier films will be taking up comedy for the first time in this film. Sridivya will be seen in an small town girl makeover after her debut super hit film ‘Varuthapadadha Valibar Sangam’. However stills that are already out show that audience can get to see her in modern clothes as well at least in the songs.

D. Imman who has given hummable melodies in the Ezhil’s recent films is providing music. Soori is their to lead the comic quotient. Seasoned artistes like John Vijay, M. S. Bhaskar and Singampuli form the supporting cast.

The film is scheduled to release next for the grand Chirstmas weekend. This will very well be your X’ms pie to enjoy with family.

Vellakkara Durai Movie Review

Director: Ezhil
Cast: Vikram Prabhu, Sri Divya, Soori, John Vijay

After Manam Kothi Paravai and Desingu Raja, director Ezhil is once again back with a rural comedy entertainer. For a change Vikram Prabhu who has done urban action entertainers so far is the protagonist and the unique factor about the film ends here.

Police Pandi (Soori) and Murugan (Vikram Prabhu) borrows money from Vatti Varadhan (John Vijay) in order to invest in real estate business but to their bad luck the broker cheat them by selling a burial ground. Heavily boozed Pandi and Murugan calls John Vijay thinking that the number belongs to the fake broker and sleaze him. Now both Soori and Vikram are detained by John Vijay.

Mean time, Vikram falls in love with Yamuna (Sri Divya) who is soon to be married by John Vijay. Initially Murugan thinks that Yamuna is John Vijay’s sister but at one point of time he comes to know the truth. Yamuna is opposed to this wedding and she is finding ways to escape out of the house. The rest of the story tells us whether Vikram Prabhu marries Sri Divya or not…

As you read the plot, the film offers nothing new and it is definitely not in the lines of new age cinema, perhaps the director has targeted the masses alone. The film’s only plus point is Soori who brings the roof down in few sequences and Vikram Prabhu has done a decent job in his debut comic role. Sri Divya looks beautiful and continues exactly where she left in Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam. Just like any of his film, John Vijay has been entrusted with a typical comic-villain role.

The problem with Vellaikara Durai is that the actors try too hard to be funny but the writing does not offer anything new. The song placement act as a huge hurdle for the film’s flow. As the story is old as the hill, the director could have concentrated more on comedy and music but sadly it doesn't happen.

Overall, it is an average comedy entertainer which might appeal to audience who never expect logic but only mindless comedies.
