He is a chip off the old block alright. But 2014 turned out to be a forgetful year for Suriya, with just one release Anjaan that was a colossal flop at the box office. The film was trashed by critics and online forums were flooded with negative comments. In 2013, Suriya’s Singam-2 was a super hit but 2014 is certainly a bad year for the actor.

Vijay Sethupathi



Professionally 2014 was a year of flops for Vijay Sethupathi the man who was celebrated as the most promising actor and darling of classes and masses alike in 2013. His Rummy, Pannaiyarum Padminiyum and Vanmham were flops and his ratings at the box-office took a beating.

Throughout his career Jai never had a solo hit. His multi starrer films have always worked in the past. 2014 seems to be a bad year for him. After the super hit Raja Rani in 2013, his solo release Vadacurry had an uninspiring run whileThirumanam Ennum Nikkah was a disaster.

Sad, Shankar’s I was supposed to release in 2014 but now it is postponed to 2015. It was only the news on the film, the grand audio launch with Arnold Schwarzenegger attending it and his new film with Vijay Milton that kept the most talented, risk taking actor of Tamil cinema in news.

For Jayam Ravi the darling of family audiences, 2014 was nothing short of catastrophic. His last hit was Peranmai in 2009 and all his films in the last few years are flops.. Though Ravi’s Nimirnthu Nil got decent response among critics, the film was a failure at the box office. He has four films in various stages of production.

All in all, a disastrous year for Jiiva. His only release Yaan after much hype, not only flopped miserably at the box-office, but criticism rained heavily on this misadventure.

A rather quiet year for Silambarasan aka STR with no release in 2014. It was just the buzz about his Vaalu, his break-up with Hansika, and his teaming up with Nayanthara in Ithu Namma Aalu that kept him in the news throughout 2014.
