Critics choice: Top 15 movies of 2014
The last weekend of 2014 is over and as usual Tamil cinema had a record number of releases. Among all the movies released in 2014, we brings you the top 15 movies.
Note: The following list is purely based on the content and quality of the films and not on its box office performance.
Goli Soda
Set in Chennai’s Koyembedu market Vijay Milton’s Goli Soda is an interesting story of four adolescent kids fighting against the powerful market head in order to get their identity back.
Vijay Milton made the film with enough towering moments and some of the stunts performed by the kids were truly powerful just like watching any other mass hero’s movies.

Vaayai Moodi Pesavum
Balaji Mohan’s Vaayai Moodi Pesavum is based on a novel concept, how silence could be a powerful weapon. Also, the director aesthetically portrayed the human relationships in detail.
When Tamil cinema moved to action thrillers, Balaji Mohan’s simple yet classy film is certainly a refreshing experience.

Mundasupatti
Mundasupatti got good critical acclaim and equally enjoyed by the masses.
The 80s set up, Munish Kanth character and the witty one liners based on the superstitious beliefs in the Mundasuppati village are thoroughly enjoyable.

Kaaviya Thalaivan
Vasanta Balan’s Kaaviya Thalaivan is a film about two ambitious drama artists of 1940, their friendship, egos and differences in ideology .
Critics lauded Vasanta Balan’s effort for recreating the life of drama artists. The way Siddharth, Nassar, Prithviraj and Vedhika performed in the film got tremendous appreciation. But sadly, the film did not rake in the moolah.

Pisaasu
Mysskin’s Pisaasu is one of the most original ghost stories ever told in Tamil cinema. Instead of fear, Mysskin got the audience to feel for the ghost, love and cry for it.
Pisaasu opened with positive reviews and the film is having a good run at the box office.
