'Idhu Enna Maayam' audio review

Cast: Vikram Prabhu,Keerthi Suresh,Navdeep
Music: GV Prakash
Lyrics: Na Muthukumar
Direction: AL Vijay

‘Idhu Enna Maayam’ marks the return of AL Vijay- GV Prakash combination after successful soundtracks in movies like Madrasapattinam, Kireedom, Deivathirumagal, Saivam, Thandavam. Let us see what the album has got in store for the listeners:

Suttrum Boomi
Singers: Shireen Shahana
The arrangement of ‘Suttrum Boomi’ seems to be a rehashed version of the ‘Yaarai Polum’ track from the composer’s ‘Pencil’. The same Bryan Adams-esque tune gets a new flavor in the form of Shireen’s vocals who does an impressive job. Likely to be the heroine’s introduction number in the movie.

High Voltage
Singer: MC Vickey
‘High Voltage’ fills up the rap quotient of the album with a heavy EDM based arrangements. The prelude of ‘High Voltage’ has a tremendous bass line that deserves appreciation. MC Vickey delivers yet another noteworthy track after ‘Aathangara Orathil’ from ‘Yaan’ last year.

Irukkiraai
Singers: GV Prakash,Harini
The best track of the album! ‘Irukkiraai’ has a lovely tune to it and is melodiously enriched by the vocals of Harini and GV Prakash who has added a texture of huskiness to the tune. The arrangements are rich and the lyrics are noteworthy. Chime bells, flutes & strings all find a place in the interludes. Clearly, the winner of the album!

Machi Machi
Singers: Udit Narayanan,Devan Ekambaram,Navin Iyer
‘Machi Machi’ is an energetic rock number that has a jaded tune saved only by the cello based interludes. Udit Narayanan sings in his typical manner and the lyrics don’t do enough justice to the peppy atmosphere that the song tries to create.

Iravaaga Nee
Singers: GV Prakash,Saindhavi
GV Prakash plays to his strengths and delivers a soothing melody on the lines of ‘Idhayam’ track from ‘Naan Sigappu Manithan’. The tune has a ‘heard before’ feel to it but is still very impressive. Saindhavi is at her very best alongside GV’s vocals. A nice, soothing listen!

On the whole, ‘Idhu Enna Maayam’ gets saved by the melody tracks – ‘Irukkirai’ & ‘Iravaaga Nee’ which plays according to GV Prakash’s strengths. The remaining tracks although sounding experimental misses its mark. The AL Vijay-GV Prakash combo has always delivered great soundtracks in movies like Madrasapattinam,Thandavam & Deivathirumagal. Although not anywhere near those OST’s, ‘Idhu Enna Maayam’ does have its moments thanks to its melodies.
