Kadhal Kan Kattuthe Review

Star Cast : KG, Athulya, Shivaraj, Anirudh
Director : Shivaraj

Director Shivaraj’s Kadhal Kan Kattuthe is a breezy romantic story between two longtime friends— Shiva (KG) and Athulya (Athulya). Though the film looks raw with too many montage shots and forced edits to match up all the flaws, the effervescent chemistry between the lead pair and the realistic approach make it a watchable flick.

Athulya is a bold and daring reporter at a local newspaper in Pollachi and Shiva is a happy-go-lucky guy, who is yet to discover his passion and waiting for the right moment to settle down. Both Athulya and Shiva have many imperfections yet they have a striking chemistry, which slowly converts their friendship into love. But the romance fades out due to misunderstanding and ego war. Also, a new character Karthick (Anirudh) enters into their life.

The biggest strength and minus of Kadhal Kan Kattuthe’s is its casting. Despite the usual triangular love story and sulk between the lead pair, the newcomers provide a fresh feel but after a point of time, we get tired due to their raw performances while the plodding romance and long drawn out climax in the second half test our patience.

The writing of Shivaraj reminds us of Gautham Menon’s films, especially the voice over narration and charming romantic lines. Going by the protagonist’s name (Shiva) and his visual communication degree, the film appears like the director’s real life story(random guess) with fictionalized elements.

The aerial shots showcasing the beauty of Coimbatore and Pollachi are commendable but the irregularity in the coloring looks odd. On the other hand, the film has pleasing melodies and lovely background score, which is ideal for romantic drama genre.

Overall, it is watchable for the honest attempt but the execution could've been much better!
