Vadivel's 'Eli'-Audio Review

Cast: Vadivelu,Sadha,Pradeep Rawat,Kitty
Music: Vidhyasagar
Lyrics: Pulamaipithan, Viveka
Direction: Yuvaraj Dhayalan

Kollai Azhagu
Singers: Mukesh, Manjari
“Kollai Azhagu” is an old fashioned retro tune much along the lines of “Thulluvadho Ilamai” from Kudiyirundha Kovil. Apart from Manjari & Mukesh’s rendition, the track comes across more as a clone of the aforementioned one rather than having a stamp of its own.

Kannameya
Singers: Vadivelu
A typical Vadivelu track! Right from his ‘Ettana’ days, Vadivelu has proved time and again that he is more than a handy singer. He proves it again in this track but is sadly let down by a jaded tune. The arrangements are nothing to write about as well.

Engalukkum
Singers: Hariharasudhan
Another retro-ish number! “Engalukkum” is almost made like a rehash of MGR’s yesteryear tracks where the lyrics play a major role rather than the tune. Musically, the arrangements are staple to the theme of the track.

On the whole, Vidyasagar misses the bus in ‘Eli’ but the very fact that the talented composer is back in Kollywood is a welcome joy!

Vadivelu's Eli censored, gearing up for release

Comedy actor Vadivelu’s new heroic film Eli has been censored with a clean ‘U’ certificate and the film is expected to release on June 12.

Eli is a period film set in late 60s and Vadivelu is said to be playing an undercover cop who sneaks into a powerful smuggler gang.

According to the film’s director Yuvraj, Vadivelu’s character and body language is based on real ‘rat’, just like how rat tries which escapes from its enemies, Vadivelu’s unexpected moves will help him to come out of dangerous obstacles in the film.

Eli has music by Vidyasagar and Sadha of Anniyan fame will be seen as Vadivelu’s pair in the film.

Eli Review

Vadivelu, the one-time successful comedian is trying his luck once again to play the hero. His Eli is an unmitigated disaster and is probably the worst movie he has ever done as a hero.

The film is set in the 1960s. It begins with a radio interview, where we are informed that during late 60's cigarette was banned in India. In order to capture the powerful cigarette smuggler Nagaraj (Pradeep Rawat), Chennai police commissioner sends the small time thief Elisamy(Vaidvelu) as a rat and he befriends with Kappal (Mahanadi Shankar),the right hand of Nagaraj.

The agreement between the commissioner and Elisamy is that if the latter finds enough evidence to arrest Nagaraj, he will get his dream cop job. What happens next is what this boring comedy is all about.

As you read the plot, this film is definitely having a good story-line and it would have worked well with an action hero. But having Vadievlu as a hero will only limit your options and the director too has diluted every possible serious scene with unwanted comic quotients which hardly tickle our funny bones.

It's very awkward to sit through a film which tries too hard to be funny and that's what has exactly happened in Eli. Vadivelu has continued his trademark mannerisms and body language in but the script lets him down and the audiences cannot even imagine him as a spy.

Though they have projected Vadivelu as a comic-spy a la Peter Sellers of The Pink Panther series, the writing is not witty enough to behold our interest and fails big time to entertain.

Pradeep Rawat who comes as the deadly smuggler is unintentionally funny and many times he irritates us with his loud acting and clichéd body language. Sadha looks cute but she doesn't have any big scope to score.

Technically, the film's production value is pathetic that the cinematography and art work gives a feel of watching a small budget movie.

Overall, a good comedian like Vadivelu is wasted in a poorly executed comic film which don't even bring a smile on our face.

Vadivelu calls critics as psychos and sadists?

Comedy actor Vadivelu’s recent release Eli is getting negative reviews from almost all the leading publications and websites but the actor says that he could see kids and elders enjoying the film and thanked his fans for making Eli as a huge hit (?)

The actor says many good publications and websites have given positive reviews for Eli but some of them have reviewed without even watching the movie.

“Don’t know whether they (some critics) are psychos or sadists, many people have trashed Eli in the internet” said Vadivelu in his thanking video.

Vadivelu’s generic statement on critics who gave negative reviews for Eli has created a huge controversy.

Eli producer files complaint against Vadivelu

Recently, ace comedian Vadivelu had played as a hero in a movie titled, Eli. Apparently, the film’s producer Sathishkumar has produced it at a budget of 17crs but unfortunately, Eli had bombed at the box office and incurred 9crs loss for its producer.

Now, Sathishkumar has filed a complaint against Vadivelu at the Chennai Police Commissioner office stating that the actor along with his close associates  are threatening him as he has asked compensation for losses incurred.

Reacting to the news, Vadivelu has denied threatening Sathishkumar and told the media that he has no clue on why the producer has filed a complaint against him.

Vadivelu has also said that Sathishkumar has only given him 2crs as remuneration but as the film didn’t meet the desired result at the box office, he hasn’t even asked the remaining payment.
