Naveena Saraswathi Sabadam Review

K Chandru who co-scripted the enjoyable spoof Thamizh Padam with CS Amudhan, turned director with Naveena Saraswathi Sabatham (NSS). However NSS is no patch on TP, as humour falls flat and the spoof is more on the audiences.
The plot has a hangover of the Hollywood franchise comedy Hangover. Four friends from different strata of society (Jai, VTV Ganesh, Satyan, Rajkumar) go to Bangkok for a bachelor party. They have a ball at a local night club, get sozzled and wake up next day in a remote uninhabited island with no recollection of how they landed there.
Unknown to them audiences are told that God’s in the heaven headed by Lord Siva (Subbu Panchu), Parvathi (Devadarshini), Saraswathi (Ramya) and Naradar (Manobala) are controlling the fate of these guys . We have Siva and Parvathi speaking in English, Lord Ganesh burning fat on the treadmill, Murugan playing ‘Temple Run’ on his iPad, Naradar using a guitar, Parvathy speaking over her I phone!
But beyond a point it becomes tedious as heaven and hell on earth are mixed. And finally after so much boozing and smoking, the audiences are told the God’s wanted the folks on earth to be educated about the “evils of drinking”. So a spoof film ends as an anti-liquor message film.
As far as performances are concerned there is nothing much to write about. VTV Ganesh hams it up big time, Jai and Satyan messes it up and heroine Nivedita Thomas has hardly anything to do. Nothing hummable about the music. The film has no basic logic or reason and seems to have been made with the only intention of trying to tickle the funny bone of the viewers, without any content.
There is a scene in the second half of the film where Naradar tells Lord Siva that the story isn't progressing fast, people will be posting on Facebook and Twitter that the first half of the film is super while the second half is Mokkai! It sort of sums up NSS.
