Cloud Nine Movies Thagararu is a well-made fast moving thriller with a terrific climax twist. It's an unpredictable crime drama that combines violence and friendship set in Tamil cinema’s favourite milieu-Madurai.
Yet, Thagararu is thrilling for the manner in which the story unfolds with unfamiliar twists and confusing turns that are likely to baffle you along the way. The incidents are all neatly tied up and culminate in a thrilling climax which is gripping and holds your interest for 2 hours and 15 minutes.
Four orphans Saravanan (Arulnidhi) , Pazhani(Sulile Kumar) Senthil(Pawan), Aarumugam(Murugadoss), are thick friends who become hardened thieves and will do anything for money .
Sarvanan the youngest of the lot and most daring of the lot falls head over heels in love with Meenakshi, the only daughter of the local money lender and tough guy Kanthuvatti Rajendran (Jayaprakash). The friends of Saravanan warn him not to mess around with Meenakshi, as their trade and friendship will be at stake. But it is too late as the plot thickens.
Thagararu boasts the best performance you will see by an ensemble cast in a long time, and that includes even the bit players. All the actors get into the skin of their character with ease. Arulnithi carries the role of Saravanan perfectly and Poorna has a meaty role which she excels.
On the downside, there are similarities with Sasikumar classic Subramaniapuram and a host of Madurai made films which sets in a sense of déjà vu. Technically the film is slick with good camera work and rain effect shots by K Dhilraj, BGM of Praveen Sathya in the climax and fast –cut editing by TS suresh without any gimmicks.
Debutant Ganesh Vinayacc, has made an impressive debut. Amidst all the violence and killing, this film has a full beating heart. For an audience numbed by predictable comedies dished out week after week, Thagararu is a worth your time.
