Sarabham is a passable edge-of-the-seat thriller that seldom loses its grip on your attention.
Debutant Arun Mohan directs with an easy hand and his film is about its characters. Credible performances from its fresh cast, and a nail-biting screenplay make up for the plot holes that threaten to eat into this otherwise engaging film.
This film scores for its unpredictable twists and turns especially in the second half. The plot is woven around three characters - Chandrasekhar (Naren) a rich businessman, his daughter Shruthi (Saloni Lutra) and an ambitious architect Vikram(Naveen Chandra) –all with shades of grey. How their lives get entangled and the cat & mouse game between the three is what the story is all about. There is no love or emotions associated with normal Tamil movies and it works as a suspenseful crime thriller, sorrying you into its drama.
The film belongs to Saloni Lutra who does a very impressive job in what isn't even a conventional female lead. Her slow-burning performance that eventually punches you in the gut will stay when after you leave the hall. Naveen Chandra is just about ok while Naren is convincing. The music and background score is passable.
On the downside, the film is a bit slow in the first half and leaves a dozen questions unanswered. Despite such minor problems, Sarabham is a perfect weekend watch.
