Ko2 is a political thriller that slowly gains momentum with a very slow first half that establishes characters and their motivations and an engaging second half. The film adresses the extent a man can go to bring out the truth in our dirty world of politics.
Generally, movies based on social issues and politicians always make good connect with audiences. This second instalment of KV Anand's intriguing thriller KO, is definitely not as classy as the first part but débutante director Sarath scores well with sharp dialogues and a happening second half, which makes it a decent political entertainer.
The Chief Minister (Prakash Raj) of Tamil Nadu is kidnapped by journalist Kumaran (Bobby Simha). Home Minister Thillainayagam (Illavarasu), is shell-shocked and he orders a special officer to investigate the case. Kumaran asks several relevant social issues as his demands but slowly the real mystery behind the kidnap unveils with a solid flashback, which is the biggest strength of Ko2.
Although the film moves at a leisure pace in the first half, director Sarath has keenly noticed all the current comical political scenarios in the state that he rightly incorporates them. Also, dialogues (Bagiyam Shankar, Raja Ram) in Ko 2 are razor sharp, especially in the second half proceedings.
Bobby Simha as the protagonist is satisfying while Prakash Raj sleepwalks through his role as Chief Minister without having much to do. The only decent acting in the entire bunch comes from Ilavarasu, as a politically ambitious minister. Nikki does a neat job.
Technically Leon James' songs and background scores are big boost for the film while cinematography and editing are just functional.
