Kangaroo Movie Review

Director Samy has a reputation for making controversial films with embarrassing themes. He made Uyir which is about a sister-in-law getting attracted physically to her brother-in-law, while his Sindhu Samaveli created a huge controversy as its theme is again, a taboo which dealt about the relationship between father-in-law and daughter-in-law.
For a change Samy's latest release Kangaroo sans such controversial theme and the director has concentrated more on brother-sister sentiment.
Murugesan (Arjuna) is a wild and not so easy to approachable man in Kodaikanal, he takes care of his sister Azhagu (Sri Priyanka) just like the Australian animal Kangaroo.
When Azhagu develops a liking for a guy, Murugesan himself arranges the wedding but unfortunately the bridegroom gets murdered in a mysterious fashion. When Azhagu accepts for an arranged marriage, again the bridegroom gets killed. And when we get to know who the killer is, it's a shocker!
The rest of the story tells us about the suspense behind the true relationship between both Azhagu and Murugesan. No, definitely not the kind of relationship you are expecting, this one is pretty decent and different!
Though the plot of the film is quite middling, the execution falls flat in most of the sequences that the director has tried too hard to make it as another Pasamalar or Mullum Malarum but in reality he has gone over the board.
The film is filled with plenty of melodrama moments and sleaze comedies but what really makes Kangaroo, a watchable movie is its second half where Murgesan's psychological problems get unleashed and his attempt to murder his own brother-in-law raises the tempo.
Arjuna has given an adequate performance as the wild Murugesan but its Thambi Ramiah who steals the show with his witty one-liners. The rest of the cast including Kalabhavan Mani, Varsha Ashwathi are just fine.
Raja Rathnam's cinematography has beautifully captured the lush green locales of Kodaikanal and singer Srinivas who debuts as a music composer in the film has shown his class in the songs.
To conclude, comparing to Samy's earlier ventures, Kangaroo is a better, family-friendly movie but in general perspective, it‘s a middling one!
